Title: What are you using as replacement drive belts?
Post by: eto on 07:54, 29 August 21
So I am aware of the sources on Ebay, however I guess these are not "real" 3" drive belts but must be something else, just repackaged and sold as drive belts.

Does anyone know what exactly that originally is? Maybe tape drive belts? What else are you using as drive belts that works fine?

Eh, I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. Drive belts are drive belts, they come in all shapes and sizes. The one's ebay (most of them) are real drive belts with the correct size required for the 3in drive. There is no such thing as a belt just made for disk drives, or just made for tape drives. They are all exactly the same thing, just in different sizes.

Just curious - what type of devices still use these?

There are very few new devices that use belts, but still existing CD/DVD Drives, printers, CD Players, record players, tape decks, minidisc players, cash registers, sewing machines, cameras, CNC machines...

OK, I expected that they are not "special". But what are the parameters we need to look for?

Maybe let me rephrase that question: Sellers come and go. At some point it might not be possible to find a replacement belt on Ebay. What would I then have to look for? What would we need to write on a Wiki page, so someone, who needs to repair his drive could find a working replacement belt?

Ah, the dimensions... The correct belt is 3mm wide, 0.6mm thick and has a total length (outer circumference) of 230mm.
