Title: 1984/1985 - CPC 464 Computing magazine
Post by: ComSoft6128 on 14:33, 17 April 21
First issue of the cassette tape magazine from Argus Press.
This was the first commercial magazine released for the CPC so expect a lot of text and little in the way of graphics!

Price?

You get a machine that can produce great 80-column text and yet you stick with mode 1. Go figure. But I know that if I got this tape back in the day I'd have been blown away by the concept of an 'interactive' (as if) magazine!

The content becomes more interesting in later issues with mini-reviews of some of the well known games of 1984.

You'd think that at £5 they could afford to switch to mode 2... :D

I'm pretty sure that was not an option. Don't forget, that Mode 2 on a real CTM640/644 (unlike on a GT64/65) is horrible to read.

Is it, though? Never noticed that, honestly, though I can imagine what you refer to. Still, it's not Moby Dick and I think it'd still make for easier reading...

When I was a kid my friend had a CTM640 and I had a GT65. Although it was of course more amazing for games, I never wanted one, as it was horrible to program in Basic.

Attached a picture from a magazine tape, that I loaded earlier today.

Huh, I definitely don't remember it that bad but I don't have one on display right now to check! Is it really like that for everyone?

When I was typing a large amount of text I used white text/black background or orange text/black background as I found the default colours to be irritating after a 1/2 hour or so.

I was very young. After getting to know green on green only too well, I marveled at yellow on blue any chance I got.
