Title: AY Player
Post by: VincentGR on 21:45, 02 November 19
Is there any AY/YM player for the CPC that supports ym files (not converted)?
I would like to listen some music with my M4.

There's no such thing as an YM player, as far as I know.
Many moons ago, I've used the YMCruncher by F-KEY to convert YM -> AYC on the PC and play them back using the Dual Module Player by HERMOL on the CPC.

@Prodatron , Does SymPlayer on SymbOS play YM/AY files?

No, unfortunately not yet. I was planning to add AYC in SymAmp. AFAIK YM requires too much CPU time and AY is just too large.
Maybe I can talk with Madram about AYC later this year.

How large? I have Gemini 2MB RAM expansion, so maybe You can add AY support for expanded configs? This way some new software for RAM extensions would appear, which is now scarce.

IIRC AY files have sizes around 100K or so. Yes, of course SymAmp could reserve additional ram for this. I will think about this as soon as I am back on SymAmp again later this year.

Is possible to replay AY with 128KB RAM?
Maybe someone could also make AY player for AmDOS with expanded configs? Or even better is possible to add AY replay (with additional RAM) to some players already exist?

AFAIK SymAmp for SymbOS is the only multi-format (+multi-musichardware/multi-platform/songlist) player for the CPC (?).

PulkoMandy made a VGM player (IIRC for OPL2) with UniDos support for streaming big files. Maybe that can be used as the base for an AY-player as well, as it is nearly the same like VGM?

Sorry, it seems that I mixed something.
AY isn't just a sound chip register dump like VGM but something like the SID format, where the player code is included and has to run in an emulator.
YM on the other side is a register dump, but compressed in a way, which is too hard for the CPC.
If I am wrong, please tell me.
So it seems, that AYC by MadRam is the one, which makes most sense.
