Title: Discology 3.2 uploaded
Post by: Gryzor on 08:54, 14 January 16
...here: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=dldir;sa=details;lid=3755 (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=dldir;sa=details;lid=3755)

This version, missing from our archive previously, is 3.2 and was provided by @VincentGR (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1053) who discovered that other versions would not copy from tape to disk.I haven't tried that (although supposedly it works in emulators, too) and of course it doesn't necessarily mean that the program transferred will work, but at least it's a step further from other versions where the program would say it had started the procedure but did nothing.

This is very cool, I always loved Discology and I was missing this version  :D

I know my cousin own this version, but he was not able to send me its floppy since 3 years ago.
Nice to know that, after my 5.1 version, all are now available.  8)

Are these really all? Since I've loved this program so much (I even have an original disk!), I'd like to have a complete archive, and in all languages...

For instance I know I do have a ROM version somewhere (because I use it on my CPC) but it's not on that page (shame on me :D )

Here is the French version of discology 3.2, I don't know if you already own this one ;)
I certainly have the ROM version of the copier & editor, I will try to find them this evening...

Edit: Discology filecopier & Diskcopier - Roms Version added ;)
Enjoy !

I have an original discology Disk at home, but I'm not sure which version it is. Perhaps I should check.

Bryce.

I confirm that games that can be transfered work on disc.
This version works with emulators and on the real thing.
Other versions resets cpc or displays operation complete with no true result.

I had this in my back of my mind that in the past I could do this via discology and present time was not possible.
I was right this time, I used that specific version back then.

I am fairly confident I had a discology 8.1 or something like that. I'll look at my 3" discs to see if I still have it.

Probably a hack of some sort? But still worth looking at it :)

As I have tested, most of the hacked versions have randown problems. Better to not use them, now that we can duplicate originals.

Known versions are:
- 2.0
- 2.3
- 3.0
- 3.2
- 3.3
- 5.0 (I have ordered this from a magazine advert, but received 5.1)
- 5.1
- 6.0
- 6.0 plus (PLUS compatible)

Reading CPC Power, it look the 3.2 version was already dumped last year by Maxit. (05/2015)

A friend insists that there was a Greek version too.
Never saw one with my own  :o .

Another issue that I have with discology is that it freezes when you multi-select files in fast format when I run it under parados.

Strange to see it on a Discology floppy disc.
What version do you own? Can you show a picture of it?

By the way I discovered the reason I couldn't upload the entire archive was because I had forgotten to change the PHP's settings to allow bigger uploads. D'oh...

So I'll do it soon :)

It wasn't on a Discology disk. I just thought I owned a Discology disk. It's an original Discovery Disk, with original instructions and interestingly, they also supplied a list of commercial games that were known to have worked!

If it's not on the Wiki I can scan it in and upload it.

Bryce.

Edit: I see the manual and tape version is on the Wiki, I'll upload the "tested as crackable" list.

This version 3.2 is the first I checked up and it running on emulator, but only copier, because editor still hangs.

Do you have other which fully working on emulator?

Best to ask emulators to be accurate! :)
I think that SugarBox, CPC++ and MESS are, for example.

Ok, the Wiki page was actually for "Discovery" and I have "Discovery Plus", so I created a new page and uploaded the pictures there: Discovery Plus - CPCWiki (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Discovery_Plus)

There's no link to the actual Disk content at the moment, so if the disk has never been dumped, then let me know and I can give it a try.

This was already dumped by CPCManiaco and Deepfb and it's available at CPC Power.

There seem to be a 1986 version, a 1987 one, and an update in 1988 (link here (http://cpc-power.com/index.php?page=detail&num=4234)).

I'll ask them for the pictures without the watermarks.

Edit:Just in case, it would be nice to dump Bryce's copy  ;)

I can understand Kukulcan's point of view, but the watermarks defeat the purpose of his site. So I'll ask CPCManiaco to upload the pictures here.

Those which additionally appear in every post I make, like this here, for example. I will write another line below here, with one empty line in between.

This is the line I was talking about up there. No CR or LF will follow!
Title: Re: Discology 3.2 uploaded
Post by: BSC on 12:10, 19 December 21
As you can see in my last post, one additional LF was inserted for every LF is made intentionally. It's not really a problem, but a bit annoying as my posts use to stretch out vertically when I don't use really long lines without any LF or CR like in this.
Title: Re: Discology 3.2 uploaded

If I use more CR/LF, like here:

Which is how I am used to write my posts.
Might be my style is just not compatible to the forums.

Makes you think.

Paragraphs are even worse!
Ok, I think you get the point and I'll stop disrupting the thread.

It was patched to support 512K RAM too. I was using this ROM to duplicate homebrew games, it save a lot a time... Discology originaly do not allow that feature, because the law allow only one copy for its own usage.

It is a cut down disc to disc portion of Discolology 6 also translated into English and patched for multiple copies - which is actually part of the original product but disabled internally for some reason.
