Title: XDDOS guide
Post by: Nemo59 on 22:29, 09 January 25
Hi

Where can I find documentation on using XDDOS? In particular the parameters of RSX commands like |COPY and the many other commands ?

Try |HELP  or others rsx without parameters.

X-DDOS ROM
|TYPE,"name"   - pause by ESC, break double ESC
|FORMAT,1   - 1 mean |A, or 2 mean |B, and answer for 2 questions, (are you sure) and (what format), D is DATA
|COPY,"a:old-name","b:new-name" - does'n work with 1 drive only,
|ATTRIBUT,"name","r"   - r=read-only, w=read/write, s=system-hide, d=dir-visible
|FAST   and   |SLOW   - Printing on screen

Here it works.

But I think something like that should not be buried in a forum, so I uploaded is as a PDF to the wiki here: https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/X-DDOS

It's unfortunately only in German, so you need to translate it.

The translation from German by Google (.docx or .pdf) works quite well and helps me a lot. If I have some time I will correct the typos in the automatic translation.

The documentation mentions several CPM2 and 3 programs like FAST.COM and SLOW.COM. Are they downloadable somewhere? I find this XDDOS really great! Dobbertin has done a remarkable job !

Gunhed, the link works for me but with security warning alert :  Raison du blocage du site web : trojan

Glad, you like it!  :) :) :) If you can't find the software for X-DDOS online (maybe in the Wiki?) you can Email me (address see my homepage below) and I can send you some DSKs.  :) :) :)

Personally I started (back the day) with VDOS, and later on I got the Dobbertin HD20 hard-disc (now emulated by the Symbiface 3) with it's awesome X-DDOS 2.10. The great thing is that X-DDOS also supports the V-DOS 704 KB format for 80 Track / double-sided discs. :-D
btw: This was also the reason for me to support Vortex 704 KB format with FutureOS.

I started a French translation (but maybe English is better for sharing...). I need to find time for that :/

don't forget the SUPER2.ROM with |SF for the fast formatter (use the CPM format which is compatible with XDDOS CPM format)

and also the CPM accessory ROMs with Dragonbreed XForm on it.  which lets you choose the XDDOS formats for CPM and format discs among other formats.

This site has labelled it accessory ROM 2. I made one of the other accessory ROMs there also. They arr actually quite easy to make and back in the day we didnt have harddrives or sdcards.

Dont forget discology 6 on ROM also translated to english by myself and Ace... and enhanced (unlimited copies for memory expansion users).  It doesnt only have disco6.

The X-DDOS ROM contains a "!FORMAT,drive-number(0 or 1 for A or B)" command. No other software is needed.  :)

The only quicker format function is in FutureOS

be interesting to compare the speed of super format vs futureos - surely they must be similar in speed?

FutureOS is at least twice as fast as all other programs in CPC world. However regarding format, it's different. No program can do that in less than 16 seconds per disc, because of the nature of the hardware.  :)
