Hello Gryzor.

I have a little problem with this page :

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/The_Professional_Adventure_Writing_System

I try to see but I only see a blank page.

And when I upload the 2 covers to put on this page I can't see them perhaps this is the problem.

I have too the manuals on pdf but are bigger to upload.

Thanks.

Gryzor

Oh darn, this is a problem with the db, from what I remember. I don't know if the page can be salvaged, will have to look into it. Kangaroo had told me once that's a problem with the server...

I think, if you still have the text of it, creating a new article with a slightly different name would be the quickest way around it... how about it?

Cpcmaniaco

Ok, I make a new page with diferent name and then you can erase the other.

thanks.

Cpcmaniaco

Well the problem are with the file when upload.

I upload the same file with diferent name but I can't see the file when finished of upload.

Here :

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Special:Imagelist

on the left if you link on "file" you can see the file well :

../images/1/1e/PAWS_Front_Cover.jpg
../images/2/26/Paws_Front_Cover.jpg

but if you link on "desc"

you can't see the file.

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image:PAWS_Front_Cover.jpg
http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Image:Paws_Front_Cover.jpg

And probably when I use these links on the page I can't see the page too.

If you want I can make it.

Now I make a little page without the links of the images.

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/PAWS

When you tell me I put the links to the images on the page.

The images of the other day are these :

../images/4/4e/PAWS_Cover_Back.jpg
../images/4/42/PAWS_Cover_Front.jpg

Now you have the same file 3 times with different names but with the same problem.

Sorry for all the work.

Thanks.

Gryzor

Hmmm that's more than weird... but you only have the problem with this one file? I mean, uploading other images works fine, no?

Maybe something is wrong with the file's header, or Mediawiki seems something it doesn't expect. But it's certainly weird, I will see if saving the same file from, say, Photoshop reproduces the problem...

Cpcmaniaco

Well 3 things can be that make this files wrong.

- The size of the Jpg file, because it is near of the limit of the size of a jpg file, perhaps.

- The size of the file, because it was bigger of the screen, we can make a test resize the file small for exemple.

- Change the name of the file, all the names of this files begin with P, I don't think that this is the problem but maybe.

What do you think ?

Gryzor

Funnily enough, it *may* have to do with P's. If the specific image subdir has its permissions screwed (mediawiki does that), it may have something to do with it... But will hopefully check tonight after work.

Cpcmaniaco

The same problem with anothers 2 files that begining with Ps.

This time are : Prospell Front Cover  and Prospell Back Cover.

I can't see when I uploaded the files, I try to rename the files without the Ps but nothing.

You can see here :

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Special:Imagelist

That the files are uploaded :

../images/5/56/Prospell_Front_Cover.jpg

../images/c/c7/Spell_Back_Cover.jpg

But I don't put yet on the page until I can see all well, OK.

Another time the same problem with another 2 files.

And this time with different names of the Ps :

../images/1/11/Maxam_Front_Cover.jpg

../images/c/cb/Maxam_Back_Cover.jpg

Now I think that the problem is the size of the Jpg file when is bigger than the screen don't resize to enter on the screen.

Or perhaps is the size on Ks of the Jpg file.

Please Gryzor send me an email when you has time to make tests about it.

My email is on my Profile.

Sorry about these problems.

The problems are not due to you, and I plan to look into it as soon as possible; would do it now, but I've got some house plumbing emergency I've got to take care of... so it'll have to wait till tomorrow, probably!

THanks for letting me know, tho!

Ok, this is a permissions issue. All of the cases you mentioned have permissions set to 644.

Two issues: why is it that they are uploaded with 644 and not with 777? Does the problem happen with *all* the images you upload? Or just some of them?

Second, why doesn't it work when I chmod them to 777?

I'm currently trying to recursively chmod all of the images to 777, it's trickier than it sounds (chmod -R 777 *.jpg doesn't work, and it makes sense), or my console skillz are out of date :D

PS Wow! I found it: find . -name "*.*" -exec chmod 777 {} \; worked after lots of tries... can you check now?

Cpcmaniaco

Finally i solved the problems uploading the files resize to 2000px of large and now all files is OK.

These are the good files :

2000px_Maxam_Back_Cover.jpg
2000px_Maxam_Front_Cover.jpg
2000px_Prospell_Back_Cover.jpg
2000px_Prospell_Front_Cover.jpg
2000px_PAWS_Back_Cover.jpg
2000px_PAWS_Front_Cover.jpg

And these are the bad files :

Maxam_Back_Cover.jpg
Maxam_Front_Cover.jpg
Prospell_Front_Cover.jpg
The_Prospell_Front_Cover.jpg
The_Spell_Front_Cover.jpg
Spell_Back_Cover.jpg
Paws_Front_Cover.jpg
PAWS_Front_Cover.jpg
PAWS_Cover_Back.jpg
PAWS_Cover_Front.jpg

Gryzor please delete these bad files when you have time, thank you.

Gryzor

Hmmm so we seem to have hit a mediawiki bug then? I've posted on a couple of fora for mediawiki, no meaningful reply yet, seems rather rare. But then again, uploading images that huge *is* rare :D

May I suggest everyone uploads smaller images then?

Thanks for all your trouble... I will delete the old files.

Cheers
Themis
