Hi, what is the status of the gallery, http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Photo_Gallery ?
The message saying it will close "soon" is dated December 2006! Either it should close, or the message should be removed. At the moment it only confuses people, and prevents them from uploading pictures.
Personally, I would vote for keeping the old Cpcwiki gallery, and dropping the new Coppermine gallery.
The Cpcwiki gallery is easier to use, easier to sort and re-arrange pictures.
The Coppermine things looks somewhat modern. Yes, yes, I am a very conservative 8bit user, so I don't like that too much. Anyways, I gave it a try:
Created a gallery account, logged in, and tried to fix the CPC 464+ page (at the moment it contains spanish 464, spanish 472, and one 464+, of which only the lattern one is correct in that place). The problem is that only the user who has uploaded the pics seems to be allowed to edit the page - in the cpcwiki gallery it'd be much easier to fix such things.
The other thing I've noticed is that the coppermine memberlist contains a lot of users, but only three (3) users did ever upload anything! So I guess I am not the only person who would prefer the cpcwiki gallery... What's your opinion? Maybe we can collect some votes here, and then close the one or the other gallery, after transferring the pics, of course.
Heya mate,
You're absolutely right about this. This, as I've said before, has been kinda messy... Coppermine should be closed indeed - I won't be approving any new registrations I think... I'm adding a poll to see what others think.
For the time being, take a look at http://ryandlane.com/sandbox/SmoothGallery . Do you think something of the sort would be useful or should we stick with the plain old mediawiki gallery implementation?
The "SmoothGallery" examples seem to be for slideshows. First two examples have left/right-buttons, the third example is an auto-slideshow. Don't think that this would be too useful for cpcwiki.
Slideshow may be nice for presenting holyday pictures or so. But if you are looking for a picture of the Cost-down 464 Mainboard - then it'd be pretty uncomfortable to have to through the whole slideshow to find that image.
The normal cpcwiki gallery seems to be perfectly usable to me. Only complaint would be that it can't resample GIFs properly: The problem appears mainly for GIFs with few colors, like here: http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Schematics the JPGs/PNGs on that page are resampled (with gray lines), but the GIFs seem to be only resized (no gray, some lines are black, other lines are missing). Is there a way to fix that?
PS. what means FTW and prOn? Probably uncool question, and I guess even amnesty international would say: If you don't know prOn then we can't help you, not out business :-)
prOn means: pretty nice girls without clothes are doing nice things to guys and / or other girls.
I think Mediawiki galleries are quite ok, as they are fully integrated in the wiki pages, no need to go to another page to watch the pictures.
That's my two cents.
I would rather just have an 'inline' gallery within the Wiki, the external add-ons (forum aside) can be a PITA.
Ahhhh, okay. I get the context, but, no, please no porn galleries in cpcwiki! And don't even think about adding FTW galleries. Can't believe it, did you really suggest voting for fuck that wh...re galleries? what a sick idea! Now I am wondering what poor people are forced to work in the coppermine. I'll vote for no bloody gallery! Oh my... did you really say BLOODY gallery? I'll call amnesty right now!
FTW means For The Win (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/for_the_win).
Pr0n is always written with a zero, not an O, but I can see how we could have a pixel pr0 gallery :D
Ok, consensus seems to be against any other gallery system (although nobody took the trouble to vote :D ). I think the problem is that there's no real alternative to the mediawiki's internal gallery system... at least none that works fine. And, I agree, the Smooth Gallery I installed is mostly for slideshows - I didn't like it either.
Bottom line: shall we shut Coppermine down and move all the photos to the wiki gallery?
I'm not sure where to vote, but my vote goes to the Wiki Gallery, just for the fact that it keeps the look and feel of the Wiki the same throughout, instead of Wiki looks like this, Gallery looks completely different.
Bryce.

Yes. Everybody seems to have a agreed.
How to do that? Can you move all files?
Or do we must download and re-upload them file by file?
If yes, should I start doing that?
Or does somebody wants to move his files himself? Eg. for keeping them marked as "uploaded by xyz".
PS. the voting stuff hides at the top of this very forum page.
Hmm, I think I can't see the voting bit, because I've chosen a different Skin?
@nocash: no, the files have to be moved manually - that is, we have to download them and then reupload them to the wiki system. Not an awful lot of work, so it's no big deal. Only 40-odd files. But yes, you're right in that we should attribute the photos to their respecive uploaders. Wanna take the 464 and 664 albums, and I'll take care of the rest?
@Bryce: that's weird... polls are skin-independent, so it may have something to do with permissions. What skin are you using??
Modern Dark 64. But I've found the Poll button now, didn't notice it up to now, because I was expecting it to be some sort of radio button list that's always visible.
As a wise man once said: If you make something idiot-proof, nature will just invent a bigger idiot.
Bryce.
Heheheh good 'un :D
But, I'm not sure what you mean by "button" either... how does it appear to you? Would it be esy to post a pic? For me it's bloody huge - no way I could miss it!
Btw, you're really in Santa Lucia? First time I've seen the flag....

Yes the law states that you should not look at PCBs that are under 18 years of age.
> Wanna take the 464 and 664 albums, and I'll take care of the rest?
Okay. I'll attach the original uploader name at the end of the filename (eg. xyz_gryzor.jpg), okay?
Some of the 464 pics seem to be already in both galleries. I'll compare the filesizes to see if they are really the same, probably more work than just copying them :-/ anyways, won't be too much work.
Just spotted the 664 mainboard pic, that's exactly the missing one for the Mainboard Versions page. Resolution is more than perfect. Only... why did you omit the right-most edge of the board?
PS. Funny, the other photo of that board, http://amstrad.cpc.free.fr/amstrad/cpc664_e.htm, doesn't show the right edge, too. Almost seems as if there is a problem with that specific mainboard version... making the right edge unphotographable ;-) beware, it might be a vampire ghost board!
Okay, moved the 464 and 664 pics. About half of the 464 ones were already there, but I've double-checked that I didn't forget any of the missing pics. I have edited two of the Schneider CPC664 pics from Gryzor:
1. The close-up of the CPU: cropped & resampled to half resolution (800K seemed too much). Okay?
2. The mainboard: cropped & added a gray rectangle on the missing right edge. That way it fits better in the Mainboard Versions page, without people wondering why it looks shorter than other boards. Okay?
My wife and daughter will be back today. So this means do not expect quick updates to the wiki now ;)
I still plan to photograph and test my cpc hardware... but this time things will happen like time has slowed down ;D
Looking through the internet I found a picture of no$cash's PC:

(JOKE!!!!!! ;D )
EDIT: Truth. When my 1.4Ghz PC broke, I got a 1.0Ghz PC to replace it. Am I the only person to downgrade when they get another computer? ;D
Hey, this is my PC!!!
