Title: CPCWiki implemented in Wikipanion
Post by: Ythcal on 17:25, 23 June 11
The CPCWiki can now be added from a list of wikis in the Wiki-Browser-App Wikipanion on iPhone/iPod touch/iPad (in free and paid version).

http://www.wikipanion.net/ (http://www.wikipanion.net/)

There were some problems first, but it seems the guys found a workaround.

Not this app I think. But there surely are similar android apps. And if they have such a list but without the CPCwiki: write to the developers (as I did) :)

Oooh I am so thankful for their finding a workaround!

The problem they were facing was (thanks for the mail...) that our server inserted a blank character at the beginning of the xml output that Wikipanion uses to render the pages. It was very easy, I guess, for them to just modify their code to ignore that character, just like browsers seem to do, so I'm glad they did it.

I've spent several days trying to fix the issue, which seems to be caused by a unique set and combination of settings and mediawiki extensions. I've tried lots of things (maybe you've noticed a few abnormalities when loading some pages) but I could not totally cure it...

Now, Wikipanion also says:
Quote
Additionally, to get summaries displayed in Wikipanion's search list, install the OpenSearchXml package from http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OpenSearchXml. (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OpenSearchXml.)

I don't know exactly what this does, I guess it shows summaries along with results when you search for something like the normal wiki does, but I don't think it's that important?

Since we're at it, in the attached image you can see the share of browsers over the last month.

Now, about Android; I would guess there are other apps, though having a nice Desire HD with a high-res, big screen, I have never looked for anything. But I was thinking, if you visit wikipedia in your android browser it shows a very nice mobile-formatted page. I don't know how they do it, but you think it'd be worth looking into?

Cheers
T
