MacDeath

recently I found some of you users put those pesky social network share circlejerking bars...

Don't take it personally but IMO this should be banned for the forum.

Just look at the picture I post...

I didn't removed the name, please I don't say all this to insult you emuola...

This is completely not good.
When my mouse just go on the "share" icon, it opens a fucking new window, also it sometimes bug a bit and it is an horror when you happen to clic unintetionally on one of those icons...

This is like harpooning shits to me...

Pliz pliz pleez... could you all remove those ?

I really see no point in having this here.

If you want guys to get you into their Facebook or other lists or social network, just ask, or put more neutral links in the signature or whatever...

But not such intrusive shits.

Debate now if you dare, or follow my tweeter, get at my Youtube page, enter my facebook, or get monitored by FBI as this site is host of dangerous hackers..... oh please...

Sorry for my language.

Post Edit : WTF, I have it too ?
How can I get rid of this shit ?

Ok, looks like this bar get automatically put on for each first post in a new tread... I now understand how it works.

Is this really necessary to have this ?

This is even worse than what I imagined...

Bryce

I fully agree, I hate those too. I mean why would you want to tweet about a Forum post anyway? If you want to talk about it, do it here in the forum!

Bryce.

But the "popup" opens when you hover the button and goes away in less than 2 seconds. Is it that bothering?

Maybe the normal behaviour should be opening it only if you click the button.

And having those buttons makes sense, you may want to share the post with your friends on whatever social network you use, just with a few clicks.

No, it don't popup in 2 seconds but instantly (except if your PC is a 486SX25).
And yes, it's borring and don't make sens inside a forum.

Now, we get 3 "like buttons" for the same post... "Wiki, FB, G+" ... Great...
Just missing flash/popup advertizing go get a full geek nerd forum!  :-X

I agree here:
When I want to share a forum thread, I can post the link on Facebook, Footmag or whereever...

A "Share" -> Popup to "Share on earth" -> Popup to "Share in galaxy andromeda" is not needed here. ;)

I think everyone here knows, how copy/paste works ;)

Also every unnecessary javascript increases your CPU usage.

Calm down, guys. Especially you, MacDeath, shooting your mouth off accusing users :D

I'm trying to find a way to incorporate social sharing in the forum. IMO it's not useless. In the site's statistics I see some traffic coming in from shares in other media (and, our record day was when someone posted on Reddit IIRC).  I thought, if it helps bring users in, all the better. Some of the threads do deserve and can be shared as they're very interesting. I also opted to have them only in the first post - that is, you share the thread, not a post.

The current system, as far as I can see, works perfectly fine, from my netbook (seriously underpowered) to my work PC to my desktop more-than-up-to-date machine. Tried it in Opera, IE, FF and Chrome, not a single problem.
That said, aesthetically speaking, it's a goddamn mess. I'm trying to incorporate it in the title bar of the thread and not in the message area, as it should, and my ideal setup would only incorporate FB and Twitter. Still working on it. Oh, and the "Be the first to Like this" or whatever, has to go. Definitely.

If people hate it, it's out.

People fear change, that's why they still use their CPCs

This gave me an idea, someone should create a FB page as a CPC464 or a 6128. The timeline would be terrific to read!

Sorry, I understood something less stupid. (not your post, but how the button work)
Better that not pop up ever... To lazy to click on a button? It's that the social touch today? :D

It's not a problem, while it's not intrusive. (like MP, etc)

My thoughts exactly. That's what I want to achieve with moving them within the title bar.

But let's please not whine (not talking about you) about things we don't like. Every now and then I try lots of stuff on the wiki. Most you don't get the chance to see, some (like this) are visible. It doesn't even mean they have to stay, and all constructive criticism is more than welcome, but let's keep calm and figure out what works or not :)

Sure. See my PM for that. ;)

Replied :) Though I don't see why it should be a PM!

TotO

Because I write it after see that you remove the feature, to not discut about that if you don't want. :p

Hey now, I never said "don't discuss it if you don't like it", if that's what you understood believe me, it's totally different to what I meant :)

Why don't you simply open a CPCwiki "Facebook" page... (or any other one...)

So the Facebook users could just use it, I hate it when I risk clicking on something that then ask me to sign in for tweeter or other.

I do have a facebook page of course, my main concern is those porn sites where such intrusive "social network share! bars" are also put just behing the "press play" of the viewer so if my click is a bit under, all the world know what dirty porn i watched... ;D

Yeah, I accused a user, then I understood that they had no choice too. hence my second post.
You know me, I open a topic before I think. ::)
But I correct my view when i can.

So, it is not to Facebook to come here, it is here that must go to facebook, and facebook must stay out of here (and the rest too).
Just an opinion of course.

you know, I always saw those forum as social network in themselves.
That's why I love them and despise Blogs...

why should I "blog" (sounds like "throw up"...bluuuurggg...) if I can tell what I want in a forum.

Fact is my IRL friends who are my main Facebook friends are actually not into the Retro computers.

Facebook is more for me a way to spy my ex girlfriends and keep eyes on some eventually fuckable opportunities... (please don't tell this to my...)...

And I don't think they would be interested in some obscure specialised forum/Wiki in english..

Perhaps you should just open a CPCwiki Facebok page, perhaps also a tweeter page with some automatic tweet like the various topic opens...

So it is not to us users to share from the CPCwiki forum to our social network pages but from the CPCwiki's social network pages to ours.

I would love to like the CPCwiki FB page and get it as my friend, even post a bit in it.
But that's all.

If I want to share some nice CPCwiki pages or nice topics in this forum with peoples I know are into retro computers (and Amstrad too), I just put some direct links in other forums like CPCrulez or Gamopat when I psot there...
Many guys from CPCrulez don't really come here that often, they re not all good at english after all, But when some nice topics happen, I try to share the information, the same from there to here too.

Good to see this topic is liked a lot, let's tweet it...oops. :D
Funny to see too it spawned 2 pages in only a little time.

look at the picture I posted in 1st post.
What i hate with this "pop-up" is that just moving the mouse on it open it.
then this thing may cover some Bryce awesomness (pic related) so you have to clic this small "close" button with risk to share it as all those butons are small.
With the risk to click on a "post if on shitblog" where I have no account, so this open a page to ask me to sign in for this obscure social network... oh boy.

Just because I moved my mouse now I may have to do 2 clicks for nothing.
All I wanted was enjoying a new topic.
All I wanted was a Pepsi. (haha, ST for life)

even if it is not real malware, it looks like those harpoons and spamming intrusive advertizements from the time internet was a cruel jungle.
you know, when you had no flashblock or adblock or whatever, when clicking inadvertancely (not sure it is english) would then open like 10 new tabs and internet pages with dirty porn or whatever.

sad memory indeed.

so i hate this for the principle.
I just like it when my computer would just do what I told him and only open What I want.

Gryzor

TL;DR.

But you're being overdramatic.

MacDeath

ok course I do.

Anyway you removed the pop up icon which is already better.

Gryzor

Eh yes, I did remove it, not worth the hassle!
