Hello guys,
Before anyone starts asking, Phi2x was not banned for calling me dishonest, or a mothership (??!) or whatever else it was he said about my sneaky tongue, but because of the following message me and Markus received after a warning was issued to him:
Quote from: phi2x on 09:11, 01 September 11
What I'm doing is putting a light on the manipulative minds that are attacking my project.
As those people are the admins of this forum, I'm confident they will find a way to shut me up and turn the situation in a positive way for them.
Oh, and you can shove your warning up your a**.
It's really sad when someone who actually contributes something behaves like this, but obviously this person has got a lot of issues, and as always this is not the place to solve them. Partial ban for 7 days for now...
Wow I missed that...
tl,dr...
Well, it's still there :)
Also, I never expected you to post a TLDR comment :D (no offense meant!)
QuoteAlso, I never expected you to post a TLDR comment (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/Smileys/SoLoSMiLeYS1/cheesy.gif) (no offense meant!)
YOU ousos drinker !!! you rreally know how to get Frenchs to rage !!!!
:D ;D :P Kidding.
No I actually read this...
But, well, not my bizness...just sad about such frenchery to happen in the internationnal Asterix village style.
Well, I can understand trhat some one may not want to release source codes...
My vrother is doing a project and I will probably start to learn Java to help him... and yes, getting a lot of work on a personnal project can be a intensive and you may want to keep it for yourself...
I mean, perhaps the guy would have released the Sources a few years after anyway...
But on the other hand I think his reaction was a bit too much too.
I mean, simply say he will not release the sources yet... and that's all...
Also to keep such thing/project exclusively for your own WebSite is quite understandable too I guess.
but anyway no reasons to pull out names and ad hominem and act butthurt.
it's just an emulator... perhaps more accurate than others... but hey as told, would never beat the real machine...
I would have been more worried if the ACID chip hacks weren't shared per exemple.
But to be fair...
Hardware need a lot more investment to be exploited...
One woudl have to manage a production of cards, solder the components, buy all those (exepensive) with no actual perspective of making money easily nor rapidly...
Software on the other hand needs no material to be exploited... just a man who knows what he's doing (=can program)...
And it certainly takes more time and work to code something than to design a hardware...
So i understand one would not share the internal mechanics that easily...
Without being asked for it here are my "Zwei Pfennig" to that topic.
IMHO the ban is too hard, he was banned now for a while. That should be enought.
BTW, what does it mean to call somebody a "mothership" ??? I got no idea.
So let's make a RESET and let's start all together in a positive way "From Scratch" (cool demo!) ;)

Hm?? Maybe I wasn't clear enough - this *is* a temporary ban.
But, good luck finding a forum where it's allowed to tell the mods to stick a warning up their arse... no, really.

What? Nobody told me that rule! Hmmm, you better delete that E-Mail I just sent without reading it Gryzor ::)
Bryce.
I wouldn't want to return to a forum that banned me for trying to defend my opinion and decision about my own project. I'd probably not use the harsh words he did, but I don't find it completely illogical that he did, when looking at the similar harsh words he received from other users, including mods.
@bryce: nahhhh nothing that can't be fixed by building me the next project for free (ok, *when* it comes) ;D
@mr_lou:nobody is blocked from expressing their opinion; but if you can compare the words he received (and that only after he became way too agitated over no reason whatsoever, out of the blue) to the ones he delivered, well...
I also think that phi2x's reaction was unreasonable, and insulting people is not the way to argument anything.
That said, phi2x's work is really great, pity he won't share his knowledge, but a great work indeed. I really hope he cools down, and that we can resume the forum's normal operation.

My thoughts exactly.

Very true, but he was far from the only one making insults.

As I said, please compare; just read the "dishonest" part.
@all members
Hypothesis
"If Gryzor steps down"
Do you really believe that you could do better than him?
Put yourself in his position and tell me would you only ban sne calling you MF for just one week?
@Gryzor
Thank you
for your hard work to keep us united(cpc fans) under the same roof!
Γιατι καπου καπου πρεπει να ακους και ενα ευχαριστω και οχι μονο παραπονα!
(translation: every know and then a "thank you" is necessary instead of complaints)
Gryzor does a very difficult job excellently. You can never please all of the people all of the time, but that's the challenge of running a Forum like this.
Bryce.
Thanks mates, appreciate it.
Truth is, when something like that happens I get quite a few emails ranging from "thanks for keeping it up" to "I don't know how you keep so calm" to "f*ck the m*therf*cking f*ckers!". What these have in common is that they are private messages; understandably so, these members do not want to partake in a public fight, so I totally respect it and feel lucky about them, though public voice is somewhat skewed...
So thanks. I really can't say more than that.
@Mr_lou: ok, so I went back to read my posts to see if I did write anything as insulting. The whole fracas started when Phi2x replied to me, "That rhetoric bullshit makes me sick...". In his next post he called me dishonest (wtf??). After that he tried to "point out my lies" and called me a falsifier, a mothership (wtf bis), called me a liar (running out of WTFs here) and a sneaky tongue (yup, I'm out). He called me obsessed with money (at this my eyes lit up with $$$ symbols). He called my points "malicious" and accused me of deluding the community. And finally told me to shove it up my ass.
The worst word I can find in my posts is "ridiculous" refering to his... ridiculous analogy about diplomas. I also said his practice regarding his use of open knowledge is hypocritical, and *after* he had gotten out of control I called him a small person.
Feel free to run your own comparison, maybe I've missed something.

I found this funny...
Suggested it would be an invitation for 8bit sex-practics....
I found funny that he thinks that anyone is attacking his project.

I found funny that he thinks that anyone is attacking his project.
Indeed... But the whole disaster happened because 1 (one) person asked him if it would be possible to put his emu on another server.
But, no problem ;)
I think after this discussion not many people really want it anymore on their servers.
How is this called? Home run?
Well, the problem started when I asked him why not (and carefully added that it was out of curiosity and that it was his absolute right), and he thought I was ordering him, all of a sudden, to surrender the source code to it. Go figure.
I could argue that the whole fracas started earlier than that; when you claimed his opinion to be strange, which is very easy to interpret as calling the guy who has the opinion strange.
As I see it, he then tries to explain, but you keep explaining why his opinion is strange - which of course is useless to him. (I trust no one here expected it would result in him changing his mind).
To me, it doesn't look like a discussion about CPCBox at all. It looks more like a discussion about whether his personal opinion and decision is strange or not. He took that very personal, I'm sure. Therefor his harsh reactions.
Though I admit, I don't get the "dishonest" comment either. But he does write later, that he's cooled down his emotions a bit. Then tries again to explain how he sees it.
The mothership remark is of course because you're the one running this forum. Not sure why you interpret that as an insult, but obviously must be because you were disagreeing with eachother. If someone else referred to you like that earlier, you'd probably have considered it funny and a positive remark.
Anyway, I don't care to discuss it further than that. Too much to do at the moment.
Well, of course I found his stance to be strange; don't I have the right to opinion? But the whole point here is not about opinions, but about gross insults.
Yes, he did cool down as he said... and then proceeded to insult yet again :D
QuoteYes, he did cool down as he said... and then proceeded to insult yet again
You need to recatch your breath before insulting again...
:D
Anyway, If you spoke french you could have known...
We sometimes have such kind of Flamewar on some forums in France.
And yep, calling names and shit hit the fan.
Oh, internet tough guy, why you so crazy...
He believed you were a greek hacker on steroid.
:D as a matter of fact I do speak French, I've got a diplome d'etudes superieures and a Sorbonne II, but still nobody had called me dishonest before...
It's a shame because the project could be of interest.
But because of Phi2x's approach all I can do with it is play games (slowly) in my browser - that's it. I don't learn anything.
Oh well, some people are protective over their code I guess[nb]Very odd though, because, as was previously pointed out, he only got as far as he did through what others had previously shared![/nb], but it is no excuse to start mouthing off on a forum. I think you did the right thing in a difficult situation Gryzor.
I wonder if he was interpreting the comments like this:

Nonsense. Mothership is an album by Led Zeppelin. Anything connected with Led Zeppelin must be seen as a compliment. ;)
I don't know why he felt he needed to defend his stance. If he just reinstated that he doesn't like to share his code, it would have been enough. And sure some people might have commented on that, but that's actually to be expected. There was no need answering to that at all.
@McKlain: Excellent! His reactions suggest that he indeed interpreted it this way.
Well guys, I find this discussion boring until phi2x cannot reply here ;)

I agree, PMs are private and they should be kept private.
If somebody would tell me to swipe my a** using a Warning, well, I just would refuse, because I had to print out the Warning first and the paper is pretty harsh. So, it was really NOT a smart idea to write that kind of PM to a moderator.
On the other hand, take a look at it from the psychological POV. If you feel attacked from all sides, you start to fight eveybody. And my guess is, that this scenario did happen here.
I was banned on Malc's forum twice cause I was a bit of a hot head back then, though given the circumstances I had been unemployed for quite a while from what I was doing and was trying to get work in a different field. I think when people have personal issues and it gets misplaced on a forum, it suddenly becomes confusing cause people don't know what's happening. I still have personal issues, though I can get by on this forum without it interfering. I think it's worse when you feel like the world is against you, cause then you just attack anyone.

Well, I had personal issues too, and I had problems in forums too. However this can't be an excuse. Everyone is 100% responsible for whatever this person does.

Really?? So if I have some Road Rage person come and smash up my Car just because they didn't like the way I drive, that would make me 100% responsible.
I think that TFM/FS meant something else.
yes, the complete opposite actually, just his phrasing was a bit weird.
McKlain, I had missed your "Why U..." image above, just saw it. Thanks, you made my morning :D
By the way, I'd like to mention an argument (well, 'argument') of his because I feel it's significant to put things straight:
Quote from: phi2x on 23:09, 31 August 11
A community is a community. It doesn't have any prerequisite or raison d'être per se. It's just that some people are sharing the same interest, and come together to exchange about it.
Of course at first he says there's no reason of being for a community and then goes on to explain what this reason is, but, banal as it may sound, I do believe that we have built a nice little community where lots of help is freely given, lots of fun is to be had and, for the most part, almost all of us respect the implicit or explicit prerequisites. This is why, small as it may be, it's so nice and successful.
And I'm not talking about the CPCWiki alone here, but about the other fora that are or were before us.
Yes I agree that Personal Issues cannot be an excuse.
It's complicated trying to describe it, being on the Internet is kind of like been out in your car, you interact with other people, though you don't associate with them which means you don't know them which in turns means your more likely to lash out at them. Though I hear of people who are dying through stuff they put on their facebook page which attract the wrong people(??).
I might know Gryzor from some personal stuff he's put on the forum, little bit of information here and there and I'm guessing likes the regular Gotcha joke, I'd probably have to do some digging about to find out more about him, though would have to be more open compared to the likes of myself.
Quote from: McKlain on 01:06, 04 September 11
I think that TFM/FS meant something else.
That's right. Everyone is responsible for the own deeds.
Especially those which are on the line of Stirring the Pot! :o
.
Thanks for this message, mate, it's much appreciated.
The original thread was locked because it had descended into a flame and I saw no reason for continuing...
So just open a new one.
Nope?
Well can we all watch another round of Nyan Cat* together, now that we've all made up?
Bryce.

I'm not sure, I haven't been able to hold him steady long enough since then :D

Maybe it would be ncie to have a set of two threads per emulator, one for the emulator itself, and another for discussion on it.
That way, if there's any kind of problem, the thread of the emulator itself would not be affected.
By the way, nice to have you back, phi2x!
Thanks for your consideration, indeed it would be pointless to open another thread.
However, the thread was locked because the discussion had gotten out of hand. I've reopened it now, but let's keep it on the emulator itself :)
Quote from: phi2x on 06:25, 10 September 11
Seeing the CPCBox thread opened again is all I want, but that's not how the forums work I'm afraid.
The admins have locked the subject. So they certainly don't want me to reopen it behind their back.
But there is a similar thread open on Push'n'Pop.
If people want to stay in touch with CPCBox, that's the place to visit:
