Well, maybe you've noticed it at the top of the main forum page. If you like it, use it. If you don't, off it goes :)

fano

Sadly doesn't appear here (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20111121 Firefox/8.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.5)
"NOP" is the perfect program : short , fast and (known) bug free

Tried FF (6.02), Opera (12), IE and Chrome Canary, they all work. Cache maybe?

Can anyone else confirm?

Gryzor

Ehm... sorry, I had forgotten to set the permissions right. Try again? :)

Bryce

I shouted at it, but nothing happen?  ::)

Somebody else had a Shoutbox on their website, forgotten about it until now! :o I suppose they are really handy if you've got Personal problems, but it's the kind of detail you want to see disappear eventually rather than remain around for the rest-of-the-world to see! :) I just don't know how that could apply on an on-topic sense unless something tragic happens to your CPC. Prove me wrong and keep it on! ;) I guess we're no closer to having built-in Skype conservations (kind of featured in 2001: A Space Odyssey)? Til that happens this'll have to do! :)
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)
* Incorporating the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Bryce.

It's a zen shoutbox. It just stares back at you in a soothing way.

TotO

If you filter forum messages, you lose it...
Better to put it always on bottom, after the "quick reply". (we always show it after the last post)

Gryzor

But it only appears on the main page...

MacDeath

So no need to pollute existing topics... we can now get crazy on ponies outside analblast topics...

tastefulmrship

Is there any chance of gaining access to the whole shout-box or does the db only hold what's shown?

Gryzor

Not sure. I know I can set the limit of what's shown, and in the moderation center I can see everything from since I installed it, but I'd have to look into it for details. Why??

mahlemiut

All the shoutbox needs now is a crazy rambling Brazilian posting.  ;D

I dunno, it might be handy to see old shouts. Especially if there are some useful ideas/pictures/music/disks that initiate projects, and related shouts have already disappeared off the list.

However, if you've got access to all shouts, then we could always just ask you or Devilmarkus to check for us. Which sounds easier to me.

Gryzor

Probably yes, but then again it's just a shoutbox, not a collaboration tool!

Personally I've never used it in other fora, but they seem kinda popular, so I thought...

MacDeath

I shoot at it but only manage to get a hole on my monitor...

steve

I don't think there is any point in having a shoutbox on a forum, but on another site I use, their shoutbox goes back about six months or more, so you don't have to keep logging in every few hours in case you miss something.

Gryzor

As I said, I don't use it, but I can see its point (darn! I wrote "it's point"! Shaaaame!): it's a community, people hang out, they talk.
So if it went back further you'd prefer it?
@MacDeath: try shouting at it as Bryce did, instead of shooting it.

I don't think I will use it but if it's there then it should go back a while, can you arrange to go back to the last time a user logged in, like the unread posts function?

That goes towards what I said earlier with Shoutboxes being useful for when you want to ramble on and see something on the Internet disappear! Don't think you can have an Database which stores the messages Infinately!  :D  Twitter might have that facility though!  ;)

Is the "CPCWiki shootbox" can be renamed "Shootbox"?
I know we are old and may be Alzheimer can hit... But, now?  ;D

The new version of the shoutbox doesn't recognise URLs and truncate them into ~20 chars, like the last one did.
That's why yesterday's pony image caused so much havoc!

EDIT: Today's pony is an attachment... I'm too tired to play around with TinyURL and whatnot to stop the SHOUTBOX looking all pooey!
(It's MODE 1, 7 colours, 01-06-14-25, 384x272 in .png)

Gryzor

Just use a URL shortener ;)

MacDeath

make it 20% shorter...
;)

Gryzor

...or, %20 shorter, har, har, har :D
