Just to let you know, today I disabled the approval system for new users on the wiki, as a test. Unfortunately, within half an hour we had our first spammer. Two more followed before I reinstated the check.
Which makes me wonder, what the f*ck? Are we on some spammer's persistent list? Tsk...
No, they spam everything and anythings. Sad really, but we have to live with it and use systems like the approval system.
Bryce.
Well, yes, I know they'll spam anything that moves. What surprised me was the speed with which they came back. It would mean that we're on a hit list (no doubt along with zillions of other sites) and they have kept banging their heads on our wall for months on end waiting for the opportunity to come back...
Computer Security is unfortunately a big business these days due to the amount of Crap which is out there.
We have to get the Computer Guru in at work to service our computers and some of the stuff they talk about makes it seem like what's the point in having a computer? They were even saying that there's software which makes you think your protecting your computer, but it's slowing down your computer and that you have to pay to get it fixed. :(

In a forum where i am admin, putting a question a real human should have no problem to answer if he knows a bit the subject of the forum have settled the bot problem.
Half the problem with "Windows" is the name given Windows can be broken into:

Yes, we do have that for the forum (number of KBs in a standard 464 was the question, I think), but mediawiki (the wiki part) is a different beast. When I was looking into it it was either Captcha (very problematic) or an approval system. Maybe I'll look into it again...

Hi CP/M, thanks for the video, I had no idea The One Ronnie existed. Have shared that on FB.
