Hello guys,
Just put the wiki in read only mode to perform a long-needed update. Last time things didn't go as expected, so be prepared for some downtime... could be a couple of hours, could be for the weekend.
Apologies for that, doing the best I can...
T
Ok, here's the update:
-wiki is back up
-Skin is incompatible, working on it but something fundamental was changed in the mediawiki engine and I don't know if I can bring it back. Till then, we'll have to make do with the default skin (which suits us, is nice, but... it's the default skin, dammit!)
-JavaCPC embeds not working; it required a special extension that allows for secure HTML execution, which is not compatible with the newer engine
-Posting doesn't work; will be fixed soon
-New user creation doesn't work; will be fixed soon
-Both above issues have to do with anti-spam checks (though different things), so if I find no immediate solution I expect appearance of spam.
-Videos don't work; extension is incompatible.
-multiple file upload doesn't work; extension is incompatible.
In short, Mediawiki foundation screwed many things up by changing stuff lots of other stuff relied on. Lots of work to be done; bye-bye Sunday... :(
It's possible there are other problems, too, that I haven't found. Please check anything you want and let me know!
Nope? nobody? nothing?
Should I drop the wiki altogether? ;)
You scared me this morning, as I opened the main page and only got a lot of errors due to the skin :P
The deafult skins suits us nice, but I miss the blue gradient.
Regarding dropping the wiki altogether.... I hope you prefer me visiting you to have some beers and a nice chat 8)
Perhaps you should heed the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" ;D

Yikes - good luck sorting this out man!!! I'll let you know if I find anything....

I noticed the problem, then saw this post.
It would have been nice to have a "down for maintenance" web page, but it's ok it's fixed now.
I like the style, reminds me of Unofficial Amstrad WWW Resource (http://www.cpctech.org.uk) ;)
maybe a bit more advanced ;)
EDIT: Is there a way to add attachments to personal messages?? just wondering after a bit of a misunderstanding on my part.
The defaul skin is nice and more familiar to me. I use wikipedia a lot ;D
@Robcfg: yeah, sorry about those skin errors, those were totally unexpected to tell you the truth. I meant, I kind of expected it, but I thought it just wouldn't work right; not that it'd be totally borking out!
I'm working on finding an alternative skin, but there's not many to choose from I'm afraid. As for the beers and chat, damn, my girl got back from London last night. Would've been nice :D
@steve: yes, indeed, but actually it *was* broke. Since the 1.17.0 version there've been so many security issues and fixes, and I'd done so much patching that the upgrade was long, long due.
@Border_7: thanks, mate; I've found a few more issues (and fixed them quietly), but nothing major apart from the reported ones. But, I can't check everything, real testing will come through use...
@arnoldemu: I did that at first, but when I took it up online again for obvious reasons the message was not visible. And I couldn't just replace the page with something that made sense because other pages rely on that first page and its settings to run...
(btw, you're talking about the forum I guess, yes it's possible but it requires a mod to be installed. If I don't do it soon, since I'm still reeling from the wiki thing, do remind me :) )
@McKlain: yes, also, it's more boring :D
Anyhow, a sitrep:
-looking into a couple of skins. There appears to be no satisfactory solution - some nice skins I've found are so complicated to install *and* use that are sure to break at the slightest look.
-WebCPC not working, and I doubt it ever will; the Java implementation was stopped being worked up ages ago and is incompatible, and the worrying thing is that I see no interest for the sort on teh interwebz.
-Posting/editing working fine (actually it worked before, but it gave an error when posting even though the edit was indeed posted).
-New user creation working fine.
-No spam :) Everything is in order!
-Videos work again.
Still on it... anyone familiar with mediawiki? ...no? Only Z80 assembly? C'mon you guys...
Great work. Keep it up.
Bryce.

Malc, is that you? We love Michael Jackson you know! ;)
Heheh good one.
By the way, some galleries, using the SmoothGallery extension, do not work correctly (thanks, Border_7!). Will check it out tonight.

PS does the toolbar in the editor in QuickReply look screwed up to you or is it just me?
Main Page:
it shows this:

http://genesis8.free.fr/news-cpcwiki.rss%7Chttp://www.octoate.de/wp/feed/
(http://genesis8.free.fr/news-cpcwiki.rss%7Chttp://www.octoate.de/wp/feed/
);
hmmm
What is the cpcwiki forum newsletter?
is it a collection of all the posts?
Ah yes, another incompatibility, I forgot about that; there goes the only working way I had found to incorporate RSS news in the main page, but I'll try again.
As for the newsletter, nothing much; I was trying some things out but then people started signing up and I let it be :D Here's what you get (sorry, failes the url conversion): http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=NewsSubscribe;preview;sc=62044eb6cd510c11355d06ea0c5a663e (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=NewsSubscribe;preview;sc=62044eb6cd510c11355d06ea0c5a663e)

I tried the link:
"The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."
firefox.
grrrr.
Strange, maybe a session issue. Nevermind:
[attach=2]
Ah - glad you spotted that new user registration does not work at the moment - I did try to register :)
There will be some news to add to the page on keyboard membranes ! :D
Hey!
First of all, welcome :) Just took a look at your website, got to look deeper, some interesting stuff there!
But, what do you mean it's not working? It's supposed to work... I tested it, too, and it looks fine! What didn't work for you?
When I apply I get:
A database error has occurred. Did you forget to run maintenance/update.php after upgrading? See: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading#Run_the_update_script (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading#Run_the_update_script)

Yeah... been checking it out since yesterday. It's strange because it *worked* and then it stopped working (obviously) with nothing having changed. I need some time to check the database.
Thanks for letting me know!

Editing still works btw.
Yup, better than ever, but I'm reluctant to just remove the anti-spam measures (which is what causes the registration problem)...
Thanks for thge update though :)
As my only contribution is likely to be to the page which says that membranes are not available, perhaps someone would do this for me.

Done.
Please look at the recent changes to see the edits I made.
I tried to include the links in the relevant places.
Thanks - the main issue is the comment :
New Membranes New membranes are available for other home computers. But none are sold for CPCs...?
This appears on:
Keyboard Membrane Repair/Replacement Guide - CPCWiki (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Keyboard_Membrane_Repair/Replacement_Guide)
It should say
"New membranes are available for the CPC664 (as of December 2012), but no new ones are currently available for other CPCs. Old stocks of replacement membranes are however, still available for the CPC464+ and CPC6128+.
Done. Apologies again, will try to fix the registration issue during the weekend!

Sorry I missed that one. Thank you to Gryzor for correcting it.
