Would love to see square roots in MODE 1. :) :) :)
I voted 4 points for Daymo and 5 for Square Roots at the party (that's where the voting counts, guys!)
A well deserved 3rd and 1st place. Yay! :)(I still would have wished for Pulpo Corrosivo to have made 2nd place, but oh well.)
yep, the CPC prods fared well this year.
= Oldschool graphics : need to compete versus many amiga graphics, quite difficult to make it to top3, beb tries every years, sadly the machines with less constraints are better suited for that.
5 amiga/AGA entries, all of them good... that's even nice to make it to 5th place. the c64 Patron of Crowns was nice too, should have made more points and be a bit higher in the rankings IMHO
= Oldschool 4k : while difficult for CPCs, Vanity proved its mastering of the format, Pulpo's 3rd place wasn't easy because there are always 4-5 proper entries in this competition. Pulpo's entrie was fun and quite graphic, but MorteSubita (C64) was quite impressive (despite the usual palette issue from c64) with nice twisterbar and plasmas.
= This year's oldschool demo compo was a bit short and almost empty, a decent CPC demo could have easily done a good place... missed opportunity. the BBC micro was good despite the machine's limitations (well, a 2mhz 6502 is not something to lauch at...).
the Gameboy entrie (2nd place) was decent as well. Else many invitros/fillers.
True, MacDeath, true!
The winner of the oldskool graphics competition unsurprisingly is done in AGA graphics, using only (!) 64 colours of the possible 256 out of a palette of 16M. While I like its composition, I'm not convinced that it should be a valid entry for "oldskool". They should do an entry for "Pixel Art" for a "gratuitiously" possible number of colours out of 16M; something to distinguish the oldskool entries from Amiga OCS/AGA and PC beginning with VGA and better.
I imagine that even with better entries in the oldskool demo compo, the BBC demo would have won.
Two comments from the organisers which we should call them out for:
"The BBC has no graphics chip." -> Well, it's still the same as the CPC, only wired a bit differently ... but yes, we should rub that bit of info from them under their nose the next time. :D
"The Amstrad CPC. A British computer occupied by the French." -> so true, so true. :D
So true, why not having 8 / 16 / 32 bit categories?

Else, Amiga will not won. ;D
Well, if the judges wouldn't be too much commodore biased, then the CPC would beat the Amiga anyway. ;D
