Title: Norwegian keyboard issue in emulators
Post by: Nordeide on 19:28, 01 February 11
Hello!  8)

I have a problem with my Norwegian keyboard when using certain emulators.
First of all, for those of you who are not familiar with the Norwegian layout, it looks like this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Norway.svg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_Norway.svg)

I emulate a standard English CPC.
JavaCPC, WinAPE and Arnold all have a problem with the Amstrad's "]" key, which should be mapped to the [* '] key to match the position of the original CPC keyboard. But when I press that key, JavaCPC and WinApe just ignores it, and Arnold gives a beep.

Only CPCE emulates it properly, but I want to use the other emulators for various reasons.

All the other mappings work fine: "@|" is mapped to [Å], "]}" is mapped to [¨^], etc. Only the CPC's "]" key makes trouble! Changing the Windows keyboard mapping to English doesn't help.

Any ideas?

JavaCPC uses the <>| key for ] or } symbol.
Try that please...
The problem is, that CPC emulators also need the \ key which is near this position and so most emus use this instead of ].

Hmmm I think only German keyboards have the <>| key.
Perhaps I can map it to the ^° key? Do you have this key, too? (Perhaps has the ~ symbol, I dunno, it's under ESC key.)

You can do this:
Check all keys on your keyboard ( the common ones)
and tell me, which keys are NOT mapped to JavaCPC or which use double mappings...

I'll try and fix it in Arnold.

Devilmarkus: Thanks a lot for your help! Status is as follows:
JavaCPC refuses to cooperate if I use Norwegian keyboard under Windows. Closest thing to a solution: US English keyboard in Windows, English keyboard in JavaCPC. This is acceptable, as Windows lets me use different keyboard layouts for different applications. There are still a few issues, though. I'll get back to that later.

Arnoldemu: Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying it!  :)

Does anybody know if WinAPE is still being maintained? Version 2.0a17 has been around since 2008.

Yes, but I don't have as much time as I used to. Hoping to release a new version soon. You should be able to select the key in WinAPE settings and choose the correct key from the combo box. It could be that the */' key has some funny name in the drop-down list, or maybe it isn't even there (if that's the case, I'll need to know the DirectX key code for the key).
