Title: WinAPE 2.0 Beta 2
Post by: Executioner on 05:23, 05 January 16
Released today, I haven't tested automatic updates but they should work hopefully. Let me of any problems. The main reasons for the release are to get the latest version of ParaDOS 1.2/+ out there and to fix problems with IN/OUT flag emulation to help X-MASS code development. also a few other little things slipped in.

Didn't work fully for me :(

Using windows 10:
I started winape beta 1. It told me there was a new update.
I clicked ok it downloaded it.
It then asked me if I wanted to restart and I confirmed with yes.

Then it gave an error "Download error: cannot start update process".
I close that and it hangs with:
"Updating WINAPE. Please wait"
I have to force it to shut using windows task manager.

The file is inside the update folder.
I am running windows defender.
I also have SUPERAntispyware running.
Winape is extracted into my documents folder.

EDIT: Zip file is extracted in download folder.
I am running windows as a limited user.

Better to go back to Win7.  :)  Win10 is nothing more than Spyware anyway.  :(

It's really sad that Microsoft does everything to make the life of emulator developers harder and harder. Now so much time has to be wasted to make emus running of all 1006 different OSes. Finally there is no time left to make the emu itself better. Shame you microsoft!

I don't know if there even is a way to get around the stupid M$ Win 8-10 "safe" mode where you can't run your own programs without it winging.

A manifest file in the updater with a requestedExecutionLevel of RequireAdministrator (or possibly highestAvailable which will work better for restricted users who've installed in a non shared location)

Windows 7 and Vista will do the same, if you've installed in a shared location.

You can work around it by Right-clicking the WinAPE icon and selecting Run As Administrator, then letting the auto update do it's thing.

You are the PC expert!  :)  With Win7 64 bit everything works like a charm. For emulation I recommend NOT to use Vista at all.

For an installer I think you need to digitally sign it.

It's not necessary to digitally sign it, although if you do so (and use MSI) then there are some additional benefits such as patching being able to auto elevate.

Digital signatures are only necessary for programs that need uiaccess=true in order to automate other (potentially higher security) windows. It does make a slightly less scary UAC dialog in other cases, but that's the only difference.

Indeed, Run as Admin on my Windows 10 fixed it for me, too.

I am encountering a problem, there's a high pitched sound playing when this version of WinAPE is loaded, tried an older version 2.0 alpha 18 and it still does it, don't remember it having that problem when i used 2.0a18 a lot of time back.. any suggestions? hardware is gigabyte z87x-d3h with realtek ALC892 sound codec, OS is Win8.1 with all the latest drivers/bios installed.
