Quick question: my virus detection found a virus/malware (TROJ_DELF.EPQ) in WinApe's Updater application. Has somebody information about that? Is it ok or not ok?

Been using it for a while, I don't even recall getting a false positive. Could it have been infected by something else? Try downloading again to begin with...

Some antivirus progs. are stupid and see in emulators things like virusses, trojans etc....
Even AVIRA did not like JavaCPC Desktop.

Since I mailed this to AVIRA, it had not been reported again.

They mailed me:

Avast seems to be the less "stupid" of all antivirus programs that I've tried.

Thanks for your hints. I'm using "TREND Micro OfficeScan" and it found also a virus inside the "CPCE" DOS-Emulator, and the Internet-Website "WinApe.net" is dedicated with a "dangerous" risk-level??

I removed Avast from my system as it wasnt able to startup properly anymore.
So i turned back to Avira.

My laptop has a bad virus called Norton 360 which gave false positives for WinAPE Update.exe. Which version of WinAPE did you software say had a virus?

Worst thing is, you can't even remove that one.

Since a year or more my PC has not antivirus. I hated them. They always nag me about 4k intros on PC. They thought some of my own stuff have a virus too. Strangely enough, without antivirus I wasn't infected yet. If I see something strange (usually it's stupid pop ups, spyware) then I install one, I clean the shit, and then uninstall the antivirus too. My friends laugh about it, I just say it's like having sex without a protection :)

Octoate

In 2008 I had the same problem. Avira reported that the Update.exe contains a virus, I send the file to Avira and about an hour later I got a mail, that they have changed their signatures and won't detect this false positive anymore.

Btw, I checked the latest version of WinApe (Alpha 18) with Virus-Total and besides TrendMicro and Comodo, all virus scanner haven't detected a virus in it... You should report this false-positive to them...

Thanks Octoate, but, I've never heard of Virus-Total or Comodo, and wouldn't have the first clue how to report it to them. This needs to be done by people who have the problem. I think Optimus has the right idea. I wouldn't even use a virus scanner if it didn't come for free when I bought the computer.

TFM

Well, the crap that did come with my computer had false positives too. I deleted it quick and installed my favorite: Avira Free Antivirus 8)

Out of the various anti-virus programs I've used that's been the best for me.  Hassle free, no real noticeable impact on my laptop's running (like some I've used that caused all sorts of cpu spikes) and has found a few nasty lil bits succesfully.  Of course none of them are perfect.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

when i visit the winape website Norton DNS reports it as a known malicious web site!

TFM

Yes, because McAffe and Norton are the worst crap on earth. Get Kaspersky or Antivir ;-)

I use MS Essentials free and lightweight. I use Norton DNS settings as it the quickest for where I am. Used to use OpenDNS.

TFM

Hmmm..... maybe it's possible to tell them that they are wrong, but I don't know their interface.

I prefer Avast. Free too.

Antimalware Bytes or whatever it's called also blocks the Wiki. Those programs are a pain in the arse, really...
