Title: Alien Storm
Post by: Xyphoe on 04:36, 19 April 10
I'm trying to get hold of a working Disk image for this game but not having much luck.

The one on NVG/TACGR has a problem on the 2nd level in the shop - hits aren't registering on the alien that moves side to side at the bottom of the screen - you can't kill him so you can't progress any further.
ftp://ftp.nvg.ntnu.no/pub/cpc/games/arcade/aliensto.zip

The one on CPC Power is the Spanish disk (but all in English anyway) - this works much better and you can kill everything in the 2nd level and shop, but when you get the 'turn disk to side 2' after your mission stats the game locks up :(

I'm using the latest version of WinApe
I've tested using both 6128 and 6128 Plus setups.

Can anyone help?

Cheers!

Have you tried another emu? Aren't CPCP's dumps supposed to be 100% correct? So it may be WinApe...

Hi mate - no not all of them are unless actually marked by the 100% seal - as dflsilver said in another topic recently, it only gets the 100% mark if they've played it right the way through to completion with no issues. I guess this one hasn't really been tested, he said himself that he does find some bad dumps and has to try again.
AlienStorm isn't marked with 100%.

I would like to try another emulator but for some reason Caprice doesn't work either on this PC or my one at home, I've no idea why but I've given up on that emulator.

Xyphoe, as long as I get it back and you pay for postage costs you can have a shot of my original if you like?

Thanks for the kind offer Mark! Unfortunately I don't have the necessary tools at present to make a disk image of this if you did send the game for various reasons currently.
(are you looking to sell this game btw at all?)

Part of the reason for this topic is I was going to make a YouTube video of the game, hence why I wanted to use WinApe too. If anyone has another emulator that can take AVI footage that's not Caprice they can recommend I'll take a look :)

Just use Snag-it... it captures sound as well. Great little product.

Is Alien Storm as good as Golden Axe ? on CPC ?

This game was an obvious re-use of the Golden Axe engine by Sega, but in a futuristic world.

Yet both seem to have been well ported on amstrad, but do they also share the same engine on CPC ?

Golden Axe was rubbish on the CPC, Alien Storm was crippled by the speed, i.e. wasn't enough of it.

I highly recommend CPCE (v1.85 to v1.90) emulator and Xvid codec. Ive used it with most of the Youtube videos ive made. Never had audio sync troubles with CPCE.

Hi Xyphoe,

Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you an update for WinAPE with the audio sync fixed (hopefully).

Cheers,
Richard

About the games, beware to emulators issues that are not necessarily a wrong or bad DSK.

attached the very latest CPCE beta (with all the newest things ;) )
