It was nice to play. It's so fast and I like that so much. I played one game and arrived to the boss, and as I didnt recall what to do, by the time I figured, he one-shooted me and died. For sure I will have my revenge!
Nice remake!

Finished the cheat menu ;)
Features:
- Invulnerable
- Decapitation caused by NPC impossible
- Invulnerable vs. Sorcerer
- Select stage also for one player game
- When choosing 2 player game, cheat is disabled!

All you have to find is, where and how to enter the cheat menu ;)

Post by: barbarian.1987 on 11:10, 12 June 12
hello, this is F.L , who make this clone
i have changed the controls : two players with keyboard is now possible.
I worked for 5 months to recreate the code of 1987 Team . I had a lot of trouble to re-create the animations, I spent a full night to analyze screenshots and videos frame taken on emulators to understand how it worked. I programmed in BASIC because it is on my cpc when I was 12 that I learned the basic, thanks to the big book that came with the CPC I tried to reproduce the same and I thought to make a tribute to the team without changing a bit like a fraud that replicates the work of a great master ... CPC version for me will always be the best, even after 25 years.
for download the latest version : BARBARIAN 1987 (http://barbarian.1987.free.fr/)
unfortunately it remains some small differences especially in the AI opponent that I have not yet fully mastered do not hesitate to refer the differences and if you find bugs.
to see my work on youtube : remake BARBARIAN version CPC et C64 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOUSL6Za3SU#)
in some time, I would remake the PC and AppleII versions .they used the same engine.
hoping that my work pleases you
cordially
F.L

edit: there was a little bug of scenary at the ending of the two c64 versions. if you've already downloaded, you must download it again,  sorry

Hi there and welcome to our forum!

I found 1 "bug" in the CPC version:
When the green gnome starts to walk, the music already starts in the original game.
In your remake the music starts, when the gnome picks up the death barbarian... ;)

(Nothing important but a little detail)

Oh... And the "shift" key maybe is not the best solution for Windows 7.
It always asks me if I want to enable the automatic key-toggle function :D

In rest nothing to say!
It's a cool remake!

Cheers!

it can be turned off and back on again by code.
Title: Re: Barbarian remake
Post by: barbarian.1987 on 13:13, 12 June 12
yes, i know for the shift key....i must change the attack key for a next version update. but which ? control ?
for the music when the goblin comes, in my memories, it was like you say. but on my emulator and on my different *.dsk it's like that :
Barbarian sur Amstrad CPC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lCRfpPIVBI#)
it's a mystery or our memories are wrong (1987 it's far !!)
thanks to interesting to my works
bye. F.L

Hello mate, welcome to our community and thanks for your remake!!!

I played with it last night for a while, I really liked it and it runs very nicely. I'm wondering about the difficulty curve though, I seemed to breeze through the first four levels or so, decapitating left and right, and then it suddenly got quite more difficult... or is it my idea?
Title: Re: Barbarian remake
Post by: Devilmarkus on 13:57, 12 June 12
Hummm indeed!
The music starts, when the gnome picks up the fool :D

I was very sure it was different :D

But ok, you are absolutely right!!! ;)
Title: Re: Barbarian remake
Post by: barbarian.1987 on 15:07, 12 June 12
yes, it's true. to the 4th barbarian, it's easy to behead it. it's more difficult for the 5th  and it's impossible for the 6th. and for all them, if you do the same attacks three times, it will but more difficult to do it again (sometime impossible). my IA is not the same that the original, i don't become to remaster it. so i maked a new IA who likes the original.  ;)

i have uploade the files again : now the first player can play with keyboard or gamepad. it's more easy like this
you must download again the games, sorry

bye

You should add files containing the executable only...
So no need to download the DLL files and resources again ;)

But again: Great job!

hello
i'm back again with my remake of Barbarian CPC.
and i have ported my qb64 codes to the Sega megadrive
always in basic of course, with the help of the powerful BasiEgaZorz, who allows to make a rom
in one clic !
i have tried to respect the colours of the original version. here is a screenshot :
it's more better on an old TV, go see it on youtube :

Barbarian CPC Megadrive - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfOun8YMr8U&feature=player_embedded)

the rom works on a real Megadrive/Genesis , and on emulators (Kega Fusion for better result)
here is the link to download :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kmxws288gvnfawp/barbarianCPCmegadrive.zip (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kmxws288gvnfawp/barbarianCPCmegadrive.zip)

for the moment, only one scenary is available. i hope to fihish the game this winter
i hope that playing a CPC game on a Sega will enjoy you
for others versions that CPC, go to my website :

It is to notice that he also made a patch for his MegaDrive version using the CPC DeathSword128 graphic pack.
(amongst other graphic skins)

So it now has the definitive best 8bit graphic skin : one from CPC edited. ::)

Also the source is included in the ZIP file for those bold and competent or curious to get a look at it.

i have done this skin for my PC remake in 10 days
i hope you will try it . don't forged to tell me if you find a bug or some difference with the original  ;)
if i found time this winter, i will do it on sega genesis because it will take severals weeks !

oops my bad, I stand corrected.
Better anway as I don't have one of those flash cartridge for my megadrive... I shoudl get me one of those though.

The "deathsword128" wasn't really a new game anyway, just a nice refresher for good old "Barbarian64"... with some extra boobs of course.

Title: Re: Barbarian remake
Post by: Gryzor on 11:03, 23 November 14
Ok, for some reason I had totally forgotten about this, until last night when I read about it in an older issue of Retro Gamer (where it mentions it's the c64 version that's ported???). So I fired it up today with my morning coffee :)

It's very nice indeed, identical to the original and with solid controls, except for two things: the music sounds quite... muted? Not sure how to put it, it's as if the notes end too early. And also, it appears to be running quite slowly... This is especially evident when you jump. Will there be another version perhaps? :)
Title: Re: Barbarian remake
Post by: barbarian.1987 on 13:24, 26 November 14
thanks to have tried the game !  :D

it was very difficult to add the music in this game : if the the music is good, the game is too slow, and if the music is bad, the game speed is good.... i have tried to find a middle.

the game is entirely in basic code, except for the music ( a .raw file) , who is read on the fly by a asm code found on the net.(i dont know asm langague)
if you want a good speed, go in "options" and shut down the music.
(the ntsc version is a little more speed than the pal version)
is someone here want to help me to have a correct music, it would be nice

look at my website, i have done the AppleII and PC version too. they have no music ingame so they don't have those glitches.
i'm actually working on the atari ST version and the Spectrum version for the megadrive. it's a big work because i have to remake all the sprites (over 400 sprites) :o
maybe i will finish one in winter 2015
see ya
