Why discuss this HERE and not just have a chat with Kukulcan ?

He is a nice guy and if you have a good argument I do not think he would behave "ignorant" ?

Put it this way, if he was running Instagram or Pintrest, they'd be fcukin bankrupt by now. The internet is about sharing, if you upload something, but don't want other people to properly see it or use it, then don't upload it in the first place.

I've seen scans I've provided here used in online videos and my thought was that it was great.

If I'd put a big watermark on them they probably wouldn't have been used and the videos might've been the poorer for it.

I make images all the time for the Internet and love it when I see them shared or used elsewhere plus it isn't like I created the original images I used in my finally work so who am I to try and trademark or watermark owt I do?

I don't agree with that but I understand that what I think isn't the same as what everyone else thinks.

If another website is taking images or in this case scans from another in large numbers and reusing them without credit as to where they came from then that's not in the spirit of sharing but did you put them up there just to be looked at and not used?

That's my tuppence worth.

All it really comes down to, is whether someone else is making money on your work.

In my case, I've made a ton of music, and I've always put all of it online for everyone to download and listen to for free.

That's not the same as accepting people using my music in games that they make money on.

Same deal with any other kind of creative work.
Do you need music for your Amstrad CPC game project?
Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

For me, it makes little sense to watermark that way. I mean, what's the point in providing a big, nice scan and then destroy it with a huge watermark? It's pointless! Just put a smaller image in there with an even smaller watermark.

I don't feel comfortable with scanning somebody else's work and then putting my own stuff on it. There are some genuine cases where that's valid enough though: Take Artcade - the guy has spent tons of time, energy and money to locate, acquire the rights to, and *restore* those arcade pieces of art, so I can't go claiming them. But a game cover scan? nah...

Of course there's them bad apples that will steal "your" stuff and put them on their site. That's despicable, for sure. But undermining your own work, destroying it, just to prevent them? Not sure I'm seeing that.

I agreed with everything you mentioned until this last part, please give an example of who these bad apples are, who are stealing uploaded Amstrad images?

Er, I don't know, it was mentioned before in the thread. I have no first person knowledge.

i did not mean to start WW3 i would just like a set of nice  covers for my roms  the  artt work is what i remember looking at as a kid ... its just a shame that  no one has full set  for all to use  ... there will come a point where they will be lost forever and that will be a sad day for everyone

Seems most of the world have got there sites set on it at the moment though, sadly.

I'm sure if you speak to the guy he may be reasonable enough .

@Puresox is right, just send a PM to @Kukulcan , I'm pretty sure he'll send you what you need.

As for the watermark dilemma, we love CPCPower, we appreciate Kukulcan's work and we understand his feelings regarding people that download the content on his site massively, but the solution to the problem is hurting more the people who really cares rather than the people meant to be kept away.

Sorry if we got carried away!

I haven't seen this thread as getting out of hand but as a good discussion.

Maybe I missed something but I hope not.
