Title: codemasters 30 games on cd
Post by: cpc4eva on 04:06, 13 March 14
the codemasters 30 games on one cd got much hype in AA and ads were placed for it in other mags as well at the time.

but did it ever get released ? if not does anyone remember why not?

it was going to be revolutionary for gaming but nothing happened.

i am surprised not even one of the the software houses took it up or developed something like it.

if it did exist has anyone seen one on ebay etc ?

It probably didn't take off because CD players weren't all that common and most of what was available was a hi-fi separate so unlikely to be used for loading 8-bit games. i had the C64 equivalent (the Rainbow Arts one which had a cooler design than Codies' effort) but didn't get a CD player for a while so used to take it into the computer shop i worked in to use a Commodore CDTV to load games! =-)

There was a problem found once the CD was released. Turned out many cheaper CD players had shortcuts taken with the audio circuits that were not detectable to the human ear but played havoc with the data playback. It meant Codemasters had a lot of returns and may have hastened the decision to not release a CPC version.

Editions of New Computer Express around that time should have info.
