Just been watching Click on the BBC iPlayer and spotted a new Dizzy remake for your favourite "i" device ! Whoo Hooo! Dizzy - Prince of the Yolkfolk for iPad for iPad on the iTunes App Store I haven't downloaded it yet as I am looking forward to playing the original on my CPC  with a big bag of Black Jacks (for that authentic 80's feel) when I hit the Christmas Hols. Anyway, it looks pretty good to me, would personally have preferred Dizzy III as it's my favourite maybe it will follow soon?

Definitely. Dizzy on the iPxxx looks too slick for my tastes.

Yeah, I'm kind of tired of all the polished updates. They very seldom look really nice and I end up preferring the originals. This *does* look nice enough, but still a retro look (mind you, not the original gfx necessarily, but rather something with more 8-bit feeling) would greatly benefit the title.
I'm sure they did think of it at some point, I wonder why they dropped the idea...

A retro-looking Dizzy would be good for nostalgics, but is it what the majority want? Would it do well for sales? Thats the primary motivation behind these games. Updated graphics appeal to kids with these new devices, they just think that 8-bit graphics look dated and they dont have the same appeal to them.

Do kids these days easily recognize Dizzy? It would probably have been better for Codemasters to release the game with a retro-button just like Monkey Island HD.

Hm, if you look at the comparison pictures at the Codemasters website, the old pictures probably are from Atari ST or Amiga. The difference then is not too big then.

It depends. First of all, iPad's demographic groups do not necessarily contain 8yo kids. On the other hand, retro look is really booming at the moment.
In any case, I didn't suggest replacing the gfx, just offering a "retro" option. The Monkey Island re-releases did an awesome job in that respect...

I think if they'd have had more time they would have added a retro button and other stuff, basically this is an attempt to try and re-boot Dizzy on the cheap, if this does well they'll re-do the rest of the old games and use the money to make a brand spanking new 3-d one.

I got them both from steam, love the money island games, but this was done quickly and cheaply done basically, didn't have the cash to do a retro button, although it would have been awesome.

Played it on my Android, I was not really impressed with the control... or maybe I'm used to faster games by now.

the controls are not perfect ,but good enough
