Great review , We want more of these games that show of our machine well, rather than overstretching its reach and trying to  make  weak 16 bit wannabe games  IMO.

The CPC/PLUS are really great for those early 80's arcade games.

Many had a display like 256x240, no scrolling and actually limited sprites capacity, and were runing on plain z80 machines as well (some of them).

Check the modern PacMan arcade emulator for the CPC, check DonkeyKong and Arkanoids...

And yeah, this Frogger PLUS is great.
Good use of rasters, vertical full screen and hard sprites as well.

Somewhat arcade perfect.
Well, it may have been faster in Mode0... because then less need for rasters, and scrolings+graphics would be less smooth perhaps (larger pixels)

but this would then loose the Mode1+raster "effect of awesome".

To use amstradist, having Mode1 with impression of a lots of colours is important...

Yeah, speccy ports had Mode1 in 7 colours on screen yet monocolour games...lol...

Still a good "PacMania PLUS" in "proper Mode1" could be great, per example.

It is indeed very good. I had a few plays yesterday when we met at the yearly retro gaming event we hold for the closest retro-friends. It was great!  :)

Looking forward to much much more CPC+ games!  ;)

I have to say though, that I don't quite understand why it's a CPC+ only game. Couldn't the same have been achieved on a standard CPC? Why not?

Yes. An excellent site for reviews. They are all very good. Just wished they had a couple more.

Unfortunately, the bloke running it couldn't organise his way out of a paper bag...

Maybe Devilmarkus could help?

it uses hardware scroll, lots of raster interrupts. Not sure about sprites.

it may be possible on cpc, just not so easy to implement I believe.

I guess the frog is in Hardsprite, so are some "monsters"...

Otherwise, lots of rasters/interrupt, maybe even Hardware scrollings.
Palette is not really awesome (old school arcade) and could have been done in CPC old, somewhat.

Still the vertical fullscreen is a great Amstrad speciality far too unused.

I suppose a dual playfield in Mode0 could make a good version on CPC.

Would ease everything but be in Mode0.
Scrollings and graphics wouldn't be as smooth though.
