Title: New Game: Kung Fu Guns [ #bitbitjam3 ]
Post by: ronaldo on 22:21, 04 July 16
Hi guys!

#bitbitjam3 (https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23bitbitjam3&src=typd) has finished some hours ago and we have entered we a new Amstrad CPC game called Kung Fu Guns (http://gamejolt.com/games/kung-fu-guns/162292)

The game is available in...
The game has been developed as a challenge, because some one told us that we couldn't create a "beat'em up" game over a weekend. #bitbitjam3 (https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23bitbitjam3&src=typd) gave contestants a week to create their games, but we invested barely 40h discontinued hours.

Although the game does not have all the planed features (in fact, it is in a very basic form), we think of it as a success: we have a simple beat'em up with 2 levels and music running smoothly at 25Hz. Achievement unlocked :D . And we are also thinking on continuing it and developing the full idea :D . We'll see what happens.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you very much for your comments and appreciation, guys. I think we will probably do a polished, final version with all features planned. We'll keep you updated :D

And, of course, developed technologies are being integrated in CPCtelera (http://lronaldo.github.io/cpctelera) for your future projects and needs :)

For those of you who are curious or want to learn from the sources of Kung Fu Guns (http://gamejolt.com/games/kung-fu-guns/162292), I've added compilation instructions.

You may get the project, compile, test, experiment and learn at Kung Fu Guns github repo (https://github.com/lronaldo/kungfuguns).

Wow, cool ! Glad to see CPCTELERA improve even more.

But the game  is WAY to political incorrect [nb]in germany at least [/nb] ... should be changed:

"But a new gang of chinese bandits with Kung Fu skills have just appeared to trash the day."

"But a new group of misguided, due to their capitalistic surpressors, ethnic asian rebels with Kung Fu skills have just appeared to recycle the day. "

"Kill the Chinese Bandits."

"Resocialise the wrong guided in the name of P.C. !"

Political correctness is the new way of having a witch hunt, isn't it?  :-\

Well, @SRS (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=805), I understand that many people is concerned nowadays with "political correctness" and similar things. This game in particular has no intention at all of molesting people. It is just an invented story on a ficticious context. They could have been american, spanish, french, german... or whatever bandits. No message or intention lives behind the chosen story. It's just an invented story.

In the case of someone getting upset by it, I ask for apologizes in advance. Again, no intention to pick on anyone.

My personal reflection on this: all of us are getting too picky on political correctness. I think we should pay more attention to real intentions of authors instead of general classifications. I think having actual intention of offending shouldn't be tolerated. However, defaulting to banning some kind of contents is bad for us in the long term. We could end up welcoming censorship.

I like the game, and the content FITS into the "western style" content.

I'm just very upset now about the way my country and the EU are seeming to go to - censorship is one of the things I see coming.

Keep the game as it is and please give us more of the content. I can still reprogramm it a bit so chinese rebels fight agains red haired english aggressors or or or :D

Will try to keep my ironic to the german part of forum for the next weeks :)

There's always a chance one ends offending people by accident, specially when we're releasing content to the whole world without noticing that it probably has cultural influences that may not be understood in the same way in other cultures.

As an example of misunderstanding: "molesting people" may not mean what you think (I guess you translated from Spanish "molestar"; but at least in Brit English "to molest" is a different thing).

I don't worry too much about it until it happens, and when it does... if the complaint is reasonable, I don't mind making changes if is not a big deal.

I gave a quick go to the game, congratulations for the 5th place in the final score (got 3rd in funniest game!). I also think this game has a great potential. Please keep working on it!

You could always change it to the Spanish Inquisition as suggested by a hoppin' mad Aussie!

Yeah, all well spoken, but somebody made a joke, and we make an elephant out of a fly. So back to the Kung Fu! Any idea what could be in an updated / full version in addition?
