Title: Looking for game recommendations
Post by: chrd on 22:29, 09 June 11
I just got my first CPC 464 (with green screen and a lot of tapes):

Zone trooper
Super Hero
Nexor
2088
Dizzy Dice
Ghost Hunters (pochette originale)
Thrust II
Saboteur II
Blagger
Jocky Wilson's Compendium of darts
Ninja Commando
Grand prix sim'
Pro ski simulator
Hi Q Quiz
Platoon
3D starfighter
Sword slayer
Zoids
Necris dome
Las vegas
Robin hood
Rock & Wrestle
Ninja Scooter simulator
Para assault course
Thing
Eagles nest
Killapede
Battle tank simulator
Spaghetti western
Terra cognita
I Ball II

Brainache

Which games are the best in your opinion from the above list (keyboard-playable)?

I've tried Super Hero (looked nice but very small area to play in), Necris Dome (too slow), Grand prix sim' (a little too basic maybe although probably nice in multiplayer I guess).

Hi chrd.

Blagger is a great (although VERY old school) platformer.
A lot like Manic Miner etc.

Saboteur 2 is a great game, though rather unpolished.

Platoon, despite the awful scrolling, is a great game too. The music is particularly good.

Zoids is well worth a play, if you don't mind the slow frame-rate.

Into the Eagle's Nest is a great Gauntlet style game, with lovely graphics.

Have fun!

It always depends what kind of games you like.

I like arcade games a lot, and I think Killapede is a great Centipede game.
My brother loved Eagles Nest.

My cousin liked Thing, but I never quite found it that intriguing.

I always found Grand Prix Sim was fun assuming it's the Codemasters one.

You should also perhaps try to find a decent colour monitor too.

Maybe he likes the mildly hallucinogenic effect of playing on a green screen for hours and then looking at the wall  :D

Personally I like Ghost Hunters though it maybe fiddly to play on keyboard cause you've got your character to move around as well as the Crosshairs for shooting the Ghosts that pop-up on each screen and yeah you can cheat, but the game will tell you, "you cheat and you die when return back to base", I know cause I completed it without cheating!  ;)

Nexor if your into Head over Heels like 3D perspective room games, unsure if that's keyboard friendly. Spaghetti Western is probably as fiddly to play on keyboard as it is on Joystick - I got to the 4th stage but died badly due to the bad controls and the amount of stuff being thrown at you which is annoying (I can see why AA gave it 37%), otherwise it's a good game.

Blagger is another interesting one too, though early which usually means the keys cannot be redefined.  :o

If you're looking for a Good Joystick I reckon the "Star Cursor" is a pretty good all-rounder which was built like a tank!  :)

Killapede isnt a bad game to kill a bit of time with, although it can get a bit repetitive.

I'd really love to get a pack of games I haven't played and then spend the weekend loading them all up... :)

it really is quite enjoyable to load up a stack of games you've never played or partly in my case never played in colour before. I still haven't finished playing through the 50 tapes I bought off of ebay a few months ago.

Although if the games are not very good they don't get played for very long. I'm not sure I've played anything as terrible as Super Gran before perhaps bridge-it is as bad but maybe not, luckily I don't own Bridge-it.
