.... Having bought robocop2 shortly after my 6128plus at about launch day I was constantly annoyed at how damn hard it was. And normally gave up in favour of pang or plotting. Anyway just now, whilst watching xyphoes one life speedrun I noticed the mention of sub rooms as restart points....
Sub rooms I thought, reaching for the instructions... Wow. You can do *that*? so I try again for the first time in years and nearly get off level 1! For the first time ever. This is definately a seriously hard game. But I might actually play it again now.

Thanks xyphoe

Still doesn't make it fun.   The jumping bits and instant death obstacles make sure of that...

yeah, because this game almost exclusively uses Hardsprites, it is actually more a pure platformer than a "run and gun platform" game...
close to no actual enemies besides the surrendering ones or traps.

having real enemies would have used a lot of sprite resource and as those could not be refreshed fast enough nor be properly multiplexed... shame on the sprite design from ASIC and to Amstrad...

And although it is fiendishly hard I still like it LOL.

I've had a Robocop week this week, Watched the movies (Christ robocop 3 was bad) and played both Robocop (disk) and Robocop2 (Cart) on the 6128plus. Oh the fun of reliving the 80's and 90's

well, great graphics and sweet very smooth scrolling on an Amstrad Machine... the greatest game from GX4000 as well... 8)

Ooooh not sure about that. For me at least Pang takes that crown. Followed by plotting and pro tennis tour.

I hated klax for being identical to the old tape version tho.

Definitely Pang if we counting GX4000 specific games (otherwise I'd probably go for SwitchBlade even though I actually prefer the disk version slightly).  Plays well and looks fine.  I don't really like much about the RoboCop 2 game at all.

Robocop and navy seals both look amazing. But pang still wins. Anyone can pick up a paddle (or 2 button speedking) and enjoy a game of that. Even better if there is 2 of you.

the two tennis games are all great.

Pang is awesome.

Switchblade is...well... not my cup of tea (I don't like the way the character jumps, seems unnatural) but interesting display of Mode1 posibilities...

RoboSeal are great but freaking difficult.

Panza Kick boxing also has great graphics, many raster palette changes actually...

Plotting is also a kind of game I love.

Mode0 + 4096 palette is really showing the true potential for those large pixels and many say GX4000 could have greater graphics than NES or SegaMS despite large pixels.

One of my great regret is that games like Barbarian2 or Klax had no improvement at all.
barbarian2 could have had 320x200 display and palette changes here and there and gameplay to account for the 2buttons controllers... but the 128K cartridge is not enough to get a proper version I guess.

As for Klax... could have had "128x256" display or even 160x256 or Mode0 fullfull 192x256... a really redone version could have been great and 16bit-ish.

Except those had already been replaced by the Super NES and the Mega Drive and the home computer market was led by the Amiga.  All vastly more powerful than the Plus/GX4000.  Total failure.

Well, amstrad was also producing nice PC386 with VGA and slots for soundcards at the same time... ;D

Really , anyway apart from de old cpu, the gx4000 is dead at launch because the old ay sound chip. Compare the sound of the snes or megadrive with de gx4000 in a demostration shop in the 90, probaby left a feeling to a "old"  and tatty.

Although you know what?.

I think if a Chinese company decided clone the gx4000 with memory games and some new games in 400 in one cartridge. Today probably he can sell good in sites as alliexpress, more good that en 1990.

MacDeath

Quote400 in one cartridge.
So they would have to produce something like 373 new games perhaps... ;D

Or just shove 373 already existing CPC games onto it like some of the actual GX4000 carts are already.  At least they'd load quick though.

Oh no no no no jajajjaa

In a good chinese clone, in a 400 in one cartridge, you have four games, and the rest is the same games with different name.

So the gx4000 chinese clone came with the robocop 2 rename 400 times.

I have a termineitor 2 clones with 99999 game in memory, the game is the trak and field in four parts repeated 99999.

then perhaps just 373 patches...

but yeah, perhass just 373 Atari2600games indeed...
or 373 intro pages graphics only...

It's a pity because I still miss a GX4000 game that is both great to play and shows the machine's capabilities. I mean, technically the best is Robocop 2 but the gameplay is horrible. Maybe Pang is a good game but doesn't show much of the hardware scrolling. Some of the better games are straight ports from CPC (Batman, Switchblade). Burning Rubber is nice but slow and kinda hard. I think the GX4000 was missing a killer title, one that is bother amazing technically and quite playable.
