Yes, you heard that right.

I have in my posession a DSK file with Mega Twins on the CPC.

I pop the disc image into trusty WinAPE and CAT the file. RUN"DISK" corrupts the screen but quickly shows a intro screen with music.

It also shows two screens about the twins, but the text is corrupt.

You then get the chance to chose your controls then if you want a 1 or 2 player game. Then you get to choose to name your character before the game starts. This is the first screen ingame.

As with the shot shown in ACU, the status section is corrupted.

The game has cute graphics and plays well. You appear to have infinite lives but because it is a demo version, it might have been for that reason.

US Gold could have been onto a winner with Mega Twins had they released the game.

Ohhh! What, is it Xmas? :D Looks nice indeed. I bet your heart sunk a bit when the screen corrupted upon running it!

SyX

Come on!!! You could have given the links :P

This is fantastic!

Well done Patrick :)

Just wondering, do you have a scan of the ACU issue where they reviewed this game?

I would like to do a YouTube video and give a nice story around this work :)

Is there anything interesting you could tell me about the work done dumping and restoring what was there?

When you put your ear on a hot stove, you can smell how stupid you are ...

I've found the scans of ACU and found the issue in question. Jeez... I didn't realise how bad ACU was (or had become). Their game reviews are terrible anyway! Nearly every game seems to get a positive review, even the shitty ones like Badlands, Hydra, Lone Wolf, etc. And then they go and review unfinished/unreleased games like Spiderman and Mega Twins!

I think this is the original source link:

A conversion of the Capcom coin-op, it was advertised for both 8 and 16 bit platforms, sadly none of the 8 bit versions were published. Once again, thanks go to David Powell for supplying the development disks, which were in terrible condition incidentally. After three intensive weeks of preservation work in conjunction with István Fábián and Richard Rayner from the Software Preservation Society and Simon Owen, both the Spectrum and Amstrad versions of Mega Twins have been saved.

Brilliant vid. Thanks for staying up half the night to finish it :)

MacDeath

looks like what super Wonderboy 2 in monsterland should have been instead of the shitty speccy pork we had.

If I'm honest, and after playing it for a while now, it was probably for the best that this game never got a release... it's a great find though, and one to be proud of.

Gryzor

Was there any magazine that hadn't reviewed not-yet-released games? It wasn't necessarily ACU's fault; if the published came and told you, "here, we're releasing this in two weeks' time" and you're going to the presses in one week, wouldn't you review and print it?

Talking about the ACU review of Mega Twins, I've uploaded it here (issue January 1992).

It looks to me more finished than the version we found or what?

The only 2 screen shots used there that are of the CPC version (the other is from the C64!!!) are the levels that were found which you can see in my vid.

Carnivius

Had no idea this was even started on CPC.  Used to play this in a local arcade when I was a teenager a lot with a friend of mine.  The CPC version looks like it had potential.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife
