At long last, I am ready to release my new game.

It's based on the ZX Spectrum game I did with the same title, however its is much bigger and more complex. Its basically what I wanted that version to be but couldn't due to limitations on AGD.

Its an adventure/shooter/collecting game with a few puzzles to solve.

UPDATED Grab it here: version 1.1 https://app.box.com/s/b8pvbnkl6o2c6otm8edqzbm8hrtsrht6

There are now 40 collectable jewels so the game is finishable. You may find yourself ending up with 41 if you are lucky. I also fixed a room which should have had a lock, so that "spare" key now has a use.

Screens:

I would also like to thank everyone who helped me playtest and debug the game, epecially @SRS and @SuTeKH/Epyteor

It looks really great and I will definitely play it as soon as I have time!  :D

Great!  :)

I am really pleased you finished it. It was worth it!  :)

I love the intro and the presentation. Really slick.

I haven't played it much yet..

Now go enjoy a break and I look forward to the next one when you have recovered  :)

Hey, it's great !

I played it for half an hour, killed the first boss, then I admit I got stuck (in the dungeon with the 4 flames and the rooms that bring you back to the beginning). Too bad there is no save game!
The gfxs are very nice, the animation a bit rough but the gameplay is fine. I was especially impressed by the "level up" that increases your skills. The monsters are also surprisingly tricky to kill.

I found some bugs, but nothing that prevented me from playing (however, moving the character in diagonal to the top right corner of any object will erase a few bytes!).

Great job!

Thanks.

I'm aware of the graphical glitches but you will just have to put up with them as there was not enough memory to use masked sprites. There should be no bugs that prevent you playing and completing the game though as I had play testers who have completed it.

cpc4eva

same as what everyone else has said - great job, really slick presentation, gfx are cool, i have loved it so far but........

can someone please tell me how i can get a weapon i'm sure there is one right in front of me but i just cant damn well see it atm lol

once i get that im sure i can get into that room and take the torch and other goodies yes ?

Opposite way around, you need the torch to see in the dark dungeon that contains the first weapon :)

I'm glad it's finally released. Now I have something to keep me busy during the Easter long weekend!!

I hope you don't mind me uploading the game here? I'll also add it to the Downloads section and the Wiki homepage....

@EgoTrip: I have a suggestion for your next game and I can help you with this when you're ready :)

I found it difficult to walk through some of the doorways. For your next game consider "sliding collision" near doors.

What happens here is if you move the character against the wall and keep moving, the collision also moves you down or up (as appropiate) so that you eventually line up with the door and go through.

This means I can walk to the door in a slightly wrong place and the game moves me into position.

I'm going to play your game more this weekend :)

That's good stuff! I implemented it in a couple of games, so you can't get stuck in corners and the player movement feels more "fluid".

I don't think anybody ever noticed (or at least nobody mentioned it), but that's good advice. It is in the small details that a game shows quality.

@EgoTrip congrats again for the game!
Released The Return of Traxtor, Golden Tail, Magica, The Dawn of Kernel, Kitsune`s Curse, Brick Rick, Hyperdrive and The Heart of Salamanderland for the CPC.

If you like my games and want to show some appreciation, you can always buy me a coffee.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

yes thanks for that i worked out

Would you mind using [ spoiler ] tags for solutions to puzzles please?

@arnoldemu @reidrac I will if I can figure it out. I wanted to include it in this game but I didn't know how, and to be honest I'm glad the game is finished and am sick of the sight of it. But in the next version I will include it.

Well, yesterday i played 20 minutes and i got stuck on almost every door that i tried to enter  , you just have to enter too precise on doors and is a little annoying.

I didn't comment anything because i know how hard is to code a game, and i respect this way of entering doors!

Oh, I see what you guys mean. It's actually not only the doors, but all the interactive elements: you need to be exactly at the same horizontal or vertical coordinates to push things or go through doors or unlock them, etc. Perhaps a little bit of leeway there could help smooth the experience a bit?
[edit] ok I think I get it. Because you can't face objects, you can't move diagonally towards them. If you were able to, you'd be able to wiggle your way in.[/edit]

I'm actually stuck in the pink room where you can move four crates and have two locked doors? I only have the water weapon but I don't see anywhere else to go.

cpc4eva

yeah im stuck in the pink room too KHAZ...... what do u do with those movable blocks is it a puzzle or they are just there for show ?

as for the comments re being exactly horizontal / vertical it hasnt bothered me trying to solve how to get the jewels in screens u cant reach is bothering me lol maybe i need to solve that pink room first b4 i get further ???

The crates are not just for show. If there are crates in a room then you need to move them. Where to is up to you to figure out. You'll know you did it right when you solve it.

Haha yeah, I had an epiphany just earlier

I'm about near the end now, but I must be missing something. There's only one unexplored area on the map, I have
Spoiler: ShowHide
38 crystals and one key, one empty spece in the inventory next to the potion (what does it do anyway? extra life?)
. I just can't pass the
Spoiler: ShowHide
electric barrier to get to the hole in the ground
. I've explored everything twice now, but I just can't find a switch, or more crystals, or something else.

Cool game though!

There are two more jewels to find, have you entered all the buildings? The entrance to the last room is not obvious. The potion is basically an extra life, it refills your health bar when you die, so you can continue on without going back to the start and keep your EXP.

Great game with some small technical problems mentioned, like sliding in walls makes you stuck in corners, disappearing gfx, etc.
I ended up grinding (I strangely like grinding in games), stuck at some point after the first boss, saved a save-state to continue playing later on.

@EgoTrip: All things that you can fix with the next one ;) It is still a fine game and perfectly playable without.  I know your sick of it, so no need to go back and fix it. You're next one (when you're ready) will be a little bit better and will carry all the other things you've learned making this one. :)

I found the non-obvious entrance. Without your hint I probably wouldn't have though, I thought the room with the electrical barrier was it, and kept searching for a switch. I now have 39 crystals, and still can't pass the electric fence. I suppose I need the last crystal to shut it down, but I've travelled all around the map again and still haven't found it

In the house where the guy says "LVL AND JWLS OPEN DOORS", there is an audio cue when I enter it, but the room is desperately empty.
