Weak / old Disc? You could try to copy the original on it. But better try with an empty Disc before (in case there would be problems).

I love Thanatos to this day, especially swooping down on the knights dropping them from a great height then going to the sacrifice

Thanatos is a game I really wished had proper Mode 0 full colour graphics.  It could have looked spectacular.

of course I was kidding, Thanatos was quite an UFO and really interesting and original... nice paralax and less colour clashes than Speccy, + killer tune.

Ignore ignores the CRC check for that sector. So you get data back, but it's corrupted. Might only be a couple of bits, might be the whole block. If you're really lucky it's the CRC that's corrupted and the data is fine, but don't count on it. What happens after you hit Ignore is completely dependent on what got corrupted - if it's code then you're guaranteed a crash at some point, but it might be further into the game. It might be graphics or data. Or it could be a bit that doesn't get accessed at all.

I like this sad music from Thanatos. :)
In STARS, TREK is better than WARS.

Cheers guys :)

I got it mainly for being a dragon, memories and yes that music :D

Thankfully I got a partial refund on the disk as the other games work, just not thanatos

Thanatos was/is brilliant , really imaginative , I can forgive the spectrum port , the detail is lovely with some great animation involved. Not sure how well a mode 0 version of the game would have turned out ?

It could have looked awesome with so many more colours involved.  Nicely shaded green/yellow dragon, rich looking flames with oranges and reds, brown ships and grey castles with so much volume and depth all set against nicely shaded atmospheric land, sea, skies...   The Mode 1 look is fine if you're into Speccy limits.   Nowhere near good enough for the CPC in my opinion.

True this. But still a great game.

maybe another possible remake......

Gryzor

Anyone up for a mock up? I actually think it'd look better in mode 1 than 0, it suits its sombre atmosphere better...

And, like others, I can forgive the speccy porting; I just loved the game, even though I never got that far. Very unique!

Puresox

Yes it would be nice to see a mock up in mode 0, to see what could have been.

Even in Mode 1 it could have looked far superior to what it did.  Don't ever settle for lazy Speccy ports and let them think it was ok to rip us off time and time again.   I still say a Mode 0 version could have looked far better.   Cinematic even.

I think you have to be realistic when thinking about the market at the time, as much as I despised the lazy ports , you have to look at the economic reasons for the companies.
The ports that really piss me off were the ones that used the same graphics, but the game was so sluggish as to be unacceptable. Those were unforgiveable. Thanatos was a great offering.

No.  I will never be 'grateful' for Speccy ports.   Every game that gets released to a system is in a way promoting that machine.  All Spectrum ports did was give the impression that the CPC was barely any better than a Spectrum (or even worse in some cases like R-Type where it had even less colour and was sluggish) when in fact it was capable of so much more.   Thanatos may have been a quality Spectrum port but a true CPC version could have looked so much more beautiful and be another game to sway the decision of a potential computer buyer who was trying to decide between the three 8-bit systems.    To say we should be grateful it came out the way it did just feels to me like starving without any food and being offered stale bread rather than a big steak dinner.
