Hi there :)
Currently I'm working hard for the commercial version of Cyber Huhn, which will include the following versions:
- ROM version
- 64 KB Tape version
- 64 KB Disc version
- 128 KB Disc version (all CPCs)
- 128 KB Disc version (for FutureOS)
The game is again in the making of... and the following features have been already added:
- Display of two cannons (right and left), can be switched off and on
- Target distance: night or afar. This determines how long the bullets have to fly to hit
- Chickens can (in some levels) fire back at player
- A variety of songs (128 KB version)
- (Title picture... WIP)
Planned are eight levels (for the 64 KB version only four, due to space limitations). This levels do already exist:
- Level 1: First Wave, chickens appear in defined order
- Level 2: Chaos storm, a vast amount of chicken try to breat through the lines
- Level 3: Chickens revenge, now chicken can shoot back
- Level 4: Drifters, chicken fire back and they alter their speed, so they omit to get hit.
I'll keep you updated...
great news!
Cool!
When is the release date?
What about music?
"Music is mucho grande importante in all games".

Thanks! I also can't wait to see your upcoming game. :)
Quote from: sigh on 08:59, 11 September 13Cool!When is the release date?
Well, I intend to finish everything till November 1st. So it shall be ready for X-Mas. Marco will set up a homepage for it in time.

Where can I buy that book! Like it already. About sound... the legendary Tom & Jerry made me about 10 songs, and they shall all be used.
Quote from: TFM on 19:50, 11 September 13About sound... the legendary Tom & Jerry made me about 10 songs, and they shall all be used.
That is nothing less of awesome! :)
Looking forward to the release.
Glad to hear, CyberTFM is very active ;)
Can't wait to play the final FutureHuhn...
OOppps...
I think I messed something...
Of course it's FutureTFM and CyberOS... But what the fu** do the Hühner here?
The Hühner are bird from another planet. They basicly resemble very big and smart chicken. The exception which prooves that the saying about the 'bird brain' has it's right of existence.
Also in the game the poor chicken (see background story) do fight for the right of existence - as you do for your species, sitting in the turret and keeping them off earth.
BTW: As you suggested ESC doesn't end the game when in main menu. Now the gamer must hold Control and then pess ESC to end the game.
Hopefully the legendary MacDeath has time enough to paint me some chicken (front view) riding on the bombs... towards the player. Happy fireworks then ;)
Pretty busy these days at work, but added a simple status bar for number of hit's in the turrets force field.
Sorry I can't participate, don't have time at the moment, my employer is releasing some iphones and iOS at the moment... too busy.
:(
How, these are great news!
Thanks.
EDIT: Added another status bar, for number of chicken which escaped at right end of 3D space area, ready for attacking earth.
Both status bars are of simple nature and consist only of one raste line of bytes in the lower part of the screen.

Very sad :-( But you will get your boxed copy anyway - the mini series for the press release.
So, finally you force me to learn how to paint. Well all I need is a single chicken from the front view... should be doable...
So many versions? Wow. Any ideas about the pricing?

Like I know the disc version will be 18 Euros, has a box and a poster. But detail may be changed until November or so.
Damn, I'd sure like one of each, but...
It's not so bad. Actually there are only two versions in physical format: Disc and Tape.
The disc is planned to contain pretty much everything. Tape only contains the 64 KB Version.
Update: Added a BONUS TIME feature for Level 1 (remaining seconds * 100 will be added to score). That makes no sense for other levels, because in Level 2 or higher the stream of chicken will never end.

That's absolutely right! And I feel like a demon getting kicked in holy waters when thinking about Tapes. However the Software Company desperately wants a Tape version too. But I will not touch the Tapes by myself. He get's a disc which has a program to save the game to tape.
So sorry: No fancy tape loader, just speed write 1. But that's at least save.
Guess it will be also a good idea to let the tape run about 5 seconds before saving the game on it, to omit the crappy part at the beginning of the tape itself, right?
- New character set added, not italics any longer, has relative bold letters.
A few seconds yes, then write the files.
Speed write 1 is fine :)
Hm, if on tape, a loading screen would be nice.
Well, not only for tape probably, for disc it would make sense too... :) But I don't think there will be one for the ROM version ;)
- Loading screen (for tape) added
- Too many escaped chicken will end game (Chicken overrun)
- Too many hits by chicken will destruct turret (You get killed)
- Entering the Highscore now starts with A (arrow up) instead of CHR$(21). Characters &80-&FF are excluded.
- Homepage is in the making...
- Tape release will proceed disc release by 2 weeks, probably in Dezember
- Added Criss Cross Targeting (like in PC Version).
- Timer updated (more precise, now interrupt driven in 64 KB Version. Before it was loop driven).
- Song can be played during the game
Ok, I do need now some few reliable, honest, quiet and excellent gamers who would like to do the beta testing of the 64 KB Version of Cyber Chicken. Any volunteers?

Ah sh*t, I went and modded my CPC to a 4mb spec with a 20mb vortex drive as I was convinced you'd do a version for that.
64kb?! Who uses that these days? This is the 90s you know!
Excellent Redbox, laughed my arse off.
But @ TFM: I'll test it :)
Bryce.
@Redbox: You can volunteer for the 128 KB version then.[nb]BTW: The actual 64 KB Version runs also with 4 MB RAM and a Vortex Winchester. You can start from hard-disc of course.[/nb]
@Bryce: Ok, I'll send you an DSK tomorrow[nb]Just found a small bug.[/nb]. Thanks' for your help. :)

Thanks' for your intensive and comprehensive testing. :) :) :) Feedback included! ;)
Now I also started work at the 128 KB version. Up to now it already got more songs, all in perfect Tom&Jerry quality. :)

- The 64 KB Version is finished
- Work continues on the 128 KB Version
The game can now be ordered at:
http://www.cc-cpc.de (http://www.cc-cpc.de/site/cpage/4)
Four CPC langues are there ;)
Update for the 128KB Version:
- 9 different Songs (for Game, Highscore, menu etc.)
- Time Bonus in some levels
- Chicken can shoot back and overrun you (some levels)
- More diverse backgrounds (some levels)
Waiting for... last pics from MacDeath! Hurry up! :)
working on it... :-[
Yes. And again you did a terrific job! :) :) :)
Cyber Chicken News:
- Level 5 contains even more alterations in Unexpectedness
- Level 6 is a Gun Range, don't shoot the Astronauts!
- Level 7 contains Kamikaze Chicken
The source code of the game has now reached 636 KB, so I'm glad to have it all on Vortex format (704 KB), but soon I have to split  But I want make the game as big as possible for 128 KB. :)
You can be lucky ;) You got your GFX you need ;)
Awesome!
I can't wait to get it! 8)
Thank you so much!!! Motivation is a wonderful thing :-D
For the benefit of the 128 KB Version I had to drop the version for FutureOS. But it's not a big miss in this case. There wouldn't be any obvious differences.
Level 7 in progress. Level 8 is planned... Meanwhile the handbook in English...
Using 704 KB Vortex Format... Source get's soo much... Disc is nearly full
The TAPE Version got shipped :)
EDIT: Just finished 128 KB / Disc Version! Now the testing starts...
Need tester right now! Email me please!
EDIT: Found! Thanks! :)
Thank's a lot to Nich and FGBrain for testing. Both provided excellent feedback. I will try to reflect on that as much as possible. In some cases both agree, in some cases the taste is different. Very interesting :-)
Here I also want to thank every body who made the project possible :-D
Ok, added a function to save and load the TOP12 like Nich suggested.[nb]It did fit only in the 128 KB version though. No chance for the 64 KB disc version. Sorry.[/nb] Did just send the final DSK to Marco, he will copy it to the real Discs over the weekend, and then the games get shipped :-)
Glad to be finally done with it :-)
I hope that all the last minute changes will be properly tested to avoid side back effects.
Please, take time to do that before shipping them. Better to wait 1 more week than getting a bugged floppy. 8)
FG Brain and Nicholas did intensive testing and provided valuable information. However, both didn't find a mayor bug. Of course it never can be excluded that in some dark place a last one of them is hiding. Let's hope for the best.[nb]Since I tested the game a lot by myself I found out that I'm not really the worst gamer in CPC world as I always assumed. [/nb]
You are right about "side back effects". Changing one thing more often has impact on other functions.
The shipping of the disc version has begun. :)
yaay keeps an eye on my letterbox
Waiting for it!
Got it !
The 3 musics are very nice.... T&J is still strong and green !
But... something very strange happens, whereas the BOTH option is available and selected, I can only get the music... I cannot hear the fire sound when music is on... am I deaf or what ? :o
Very nice smooth scrolling, by the way !... and the cyber chicks are sooOoo cute : it got me hungry and I ran to KFC !!!

As printed on the document, this mode is CTC-AY related only.
Music is always played by the internal sound chip, but the sfx are played by the expansion.
Got the game is good honest old fashioned fun
QuoteAs printed on the document, this mode is CTC-AY related only.

Is this the first official release for the CTC-AY ?
I don't know if it is official, but the feature is here as TFM added it with help of the Devilmarkus custom emulator.
It's officially unofficial :D
let's add a sticker on the Box : "enhanced sonic experience with CTC-AY supported !!!" "TotO approuved"... ;)
It's a first step on the CTC-AY use. No sticker for 10% of the board features. :D
I will test it on a real CPC when I will got the game. I'm sure that will work fine. :)
I hope so too. :)
Yes, the CTC-AY is a multifunctional device. Wouldn't call the two MZ's only 10%, but of course also f.e. the NMI feature (especially in connection with the CRTC signals) will enable us to do things nobody can fully imagine yet. I'm really looking forward to do more for it.
Also hope that Markus continues emulator support for it. That helps developing a lot. :)
You know that you don't use the 2 YMZ at their best. And it's normal for the time that you get to embed that. :)
The YMZ can be CTC controlled and play more complex sounds. So, 10% is probably realist.
About the display, yes NMI (and vectored int) as well as CURSOR can help a lot for the display part.
You will enjoy the real board, when you will be back "at home". I'm pretty sure. ;)
QuoteAlso hope that Markus continues emulator support for it.
spoiler
I think Markus a slightly busy at the moment... ;)
but will very soon be available for other things I guess.
/spoiler
Hy TFM,
Congratulations for getting this Baby running.
See an Ad in the German Return Magazin.
All Thumbs up for that.
Only the best
Tolkin
@Tolkin: Thanks a lot :) :) :)
@TotO: Right, I use the YMZ (CTC-AY) for sound effects and the AY (CPC) for the songs. It should be the other way around. This would save some CPU time and indeed enable more complex songs. I'm sure that somebody will create a tracker/player (or similar) soon which supports all of them (YMZ and AY). :) :) :)
EDIT: Just sharing my thoughts... As the CTC-AY is an expansion card as complex as the SF2 of the CPC-Booster it provides a broad variety of functions. I doubt that a program really can use all it's functions at once. Games will probably use the sound features. Demos the NMI features (and sound of course) while apps will use the time functions for example. To my knowledge there is no program (and I'm not talking about OS!) which does use more than 30% of the CPC-Booster or SF2. The reason is IMHO that a program usually has one purpose (or two? ;) ), but never covers everything.
Hey!
I finally had some time to play and it's awesome how many sprites you managed to draw there!
Music is also good.
And it gets quite hard from level 3 onwards, where the chickens start shooting at you :D
Congrats on the good job!
The chicken will fire about half in X so you can estimate it a bit.
In Level 7 it's predicted where the Kamikaze chicken show up, if the player remembers it, then the level is not a problem. But in L8 it depends on accident, you need a bit luck here too.
Oh yeah I've been meaning to buy this on tape but was wondering what the shipping price to Australia would be?
are there other "first person shooters" from the "modern era of CPC" ?
You know, games like Operation wolf ?
Most productions are scroller shooters, platformers (Arcade games) or "mind games".
Perhaps a few adventure games as well.
some styles are perhaps not really well represented. Probably harder to produce.
So to have a FPS is a good thing anyway.
Still nice to have awesome scrolling shooters at last, or good old "jet set willy like" platformers anyway...
Any race game recently ?

I received the Disk and Tape last week (#42 and #9). I just need to clean up the mess in my room to get a chance to play them. :/
this games addictive.....played it on my CPC6128 and 6128 plus
Losing entire evenings to this game, I look forward to the next production from this studio.
There shall be one - and this time for free :) Test versions will go out to everybody who liked CC. :) But of course it will take some time ... ;)
Nice box & poster... But missing instructions a'la old style and a really old disc for the price + shipping costs...
Sorry for the old disc, but I'm sure Marco tested it working.
You can find the handbook at the CC homepage though.
Commercial version of Cyber Huhn mention in this months Retro Gamer with a link to the main website.
It mentions there is a limited quantity.
It's a small bit in the section where they review games for c64, cpc, atari etc.
Nice :)
From the 111 Cyber Chicken boxes with unique serial number now more than 50 have been sold! Be quick and get your copy with select-able serial number. ;)
Cyber-Chicken for CPC (http://www.cc-cpc.de)
Did somebody play it with the PS2 mouse of the Symbiface?
don't tell me Cyber chicken can handle as much Harware peripherals as futureOS ?
:D
perhaps a lightgun mode ?

Well, I had the idea of a Plus version which in addition has more sprites (all hardware of course) and supports.... the analogue joystick - which would be really cool for that kind of game.
Now the idea of a light-pen or light-gun is also pretty cool, but then I do need a moving target cross. :o
Meanwhile I made a CC version for FutureOS too. :)
no, it would be a fixed screen (or fixed scolling one) but moving chickens... not really the same game.
Probably, or it drags the target cross in one direction. But this would only make sense for a light pen guess.
on the otehr hand, a gameplay cumulating joypad/joystick and lightgun could be nice, not sure about practicability.
I'm also thinking of a 256 KB Version, because there could be more different GFX. ;)
Just wondering, going to order and download later, but is there an ending to this game? Methinks I should a longplay video :)
That's great! I am curious to review it...again!
Well, there is not an ending in an conventional way. Because the player fights against time. However with increasing level number it get harder and harder.
There is one exception, that's the Text Runner level in which the chicken fly quick, but in formation and they do tell you couple words (by forming big letters).
In Level 7 you have in addition Kamikaze Chicken flying towards you but they always show up at the same spots, so you can actually survive this level too after some training.
In Level 8 chicken have different speeds, alter speed, fire at you, appear at random Y positions and also Kamikaze chicken appear at random X an Y coordinates. Since this level is too hard actually I increased the number of hits your turret can take and the number of chicken which are allowed to escape (at the right end of the space).
Vandalsk just told me that he played Cyber Chicken with the Trackball and it worked very well. :)
Of course it's a lot of fun to blast all chicken out of space... but everything has it's price, and sooner or later they will catch you...
incoming shitstorm...
