What an awful game and bitter disappointment. Especially after the preceding two games, the combat is awful and it's just not fun, but that's not the worst of it...

I've picked it up recently again because I wanted to do a longplay as I found no others online for ANY other system....
But this game is ridiculously hard!!! After dieing repeatedly I finally worked out a system to beat the monsters, but then found I ran out of time from the most evil and tight time limit on any game ever!!  :o

I've finally got off the first level without cheats, but oh boy ... it was down to the last second! If someone could furnish me with an unlmiited or extra time cheat that would be appreciated!
I may be able to do it without, the next level doesn't appear to be any more difficult - just the same types of monsters and attacks but with different sprites. So it's probably doable without cheats.

I will say however .... REALLY good presentation - nice graphics, plenty of music on title screen, pre level, during level and game over music different for each. What a waste.

I always thought the evil time limit prize went to the bomb at the start of Dan Dare 2, myself!   :)

I was pretty disappointed with Renegade 3 too when I bought it.  The graphics in the screen shots looked like Ivan Horn's work, which meant in-house Ocean and the Op Wolf team probably - which it was, but it just wasn't Renegade, sadly.  So this game marked the end of me assuming that in-house Ocean stuff would automatically be at least decent, and from memory I don't think they released a lot of note after this either.  I got the impression there was more focus on the 16bit software by then.

When my brother or I bought a poor game, typically the one who paid for it was the only one to really play it, but in this rare instance my brother found something to like in it and actually finished it, much to my annoyance as I couldnt get much further than half way!  :)  I kept getting insanely irritated by the way the game would dramatically speed up or slow down with enemy sprite count just when I was trying to time one of those pixel perfect jumps over the instant death pits, and so it would stuff my jump up and I'd lose a life for nothing.

sigh

This game just doesn't do it for me at all,  having to punch dinosaurs and mummies. No knee moves, no floor pummel, no trademark back kick....all the grittiness was sucked out. This was the only renegade game I didn't complete.

Haha! AGREED!

Although thinking about it this isn't the worst game for time limits, I would say the Rocky Horror Picture Show is. Every millisecond is desperately important, and you cannot stop moving. If the pieces of the machine don't fall in the right locations (randomly placed at the start of the game) in most scenarios the game is literally impossible to complete. I had to restart the game many many times until I had a game where I could *just* do it - and it had to be flawless without stopping -

Thanks Johnny! I thought you might come up with the goods :D

Currently, without cheats I've just made it to level 3 with 3 lives remaining and am recording this!!! Wish me luck guys!!  :o

Well I completed it without cheats this morning and thankfully got a vid recorded (gonna upload Renegade and Target Renegade first though). Not worth the hassle for the shit ending you get!

If you can crack the first level, then you can beat the others. As they're no more difficult - its the same enemies and attack patterns but just with different sprites. You also get 3 lives back at the start of each level which is handy. You'll see in the video later this week the trick to beating this game ;)

Where you able to get a mate round to showcase a proper 2 player mode?

Gryzor

You finished it?

And you're not feeling empty inside?

Sadly not no :(
(there's probably only one of my mates who's a serious retrogaming nerd that would have and happy to go on mic, but we both work opposite hours - perhaps in the future...)

Anyway, Renegade is up online now -

Probably would have been if I'd spent weeks on it, but I worked out a way to beat it - and actually did after 2 or 3 tries, probably an hour tops last night. Phew.

Target Renegade up now - Renegade III (*cripes*!) to follow tomorrow hopefully -

And at last ...

Renegade III is now finally on line! Enjoy  :P
