Title: Robocop 3 - from Speccy to Amstrad (in theory)
Post by: zeropolis79 on 16:45, 07 June 15
With the talk of converting Skool Daze from the Spectrum to the CPC using the Speccy code, could, in theory, the Speccy code for Robocop 3 be used to make a CPC edition?

Another damn speccy port with jerky scrolling and bad GFX? Why don't you guys learn coding and make a real CPC game. Use Carnivacs GFX - that's a world better than that speccy version!

A good number of the GX4000 vapourwares had releases on other systems, particularly on C64 cart and on Speccy.  The level designs from these games can be copied but I agree with TFM, the graphics and code both need working from the ground up in all cases. Worth the extra effort I think  :D

we've all seen to many speccy ports with "good intention**" going so wrong...

** good intention to get a cheap easy port...

please.... NOT.
unless you get source code.

If someone provided me the Speccy graphics in a DSK file, I'd make them CPC shots...

but... where is the source code?!

no source code almost = start coding the game from scratch

Sure there is someway to get the code from the Spectrum version... If people can extract it from 3D Deathchase adn Skool Daze..

I don't know for sure but in the case of skool daze i suspect that is someone with a lot of "love" for the game that studied all the source code, figure out the 100% of the code.. identify the subroutines, coment all the code... this is not possible with all the games, we are talking of month perhaps years...

you simply can't do that with all the games, unless with one game in particular that you really really love, and have months of spare time to dissasemble that... and with games of US Gold, Ocean or big licences i bet that in addition to that you will have to deal with copy protected code everywhere!

But maybe its really better to take them from arcade / other system. So you convert instead of upgrading. Makes things more easy.  :)

Robocop 3 was anounced on CPC+ floppy (like space gun) in french magazine Amstrad 100% in early 1992. In the same news it was written that Ocean will publish on CPC+ floppy Pang, Robocop 2, S.C.I... On their minitel board we obtained more news about thoses releases, they were expected for late 1992. We're still waiting for them. In Amstrad Action (for Super Cauldron or Prehistorik 2 release) Elmar Krieger explained that he submit his skill to port Pang to CPC.

Robocop 3 AY could be ripped fron speccy release ?
