This has always been one of my favourite games.

What is the furthest anyone has got? I have finished it with infinite time pokes, but nowhere near without them. I hope to manage it one day.

To be fair at the time I never played any Dizzy's series game... :-[

But yeah I've heard they are good... ::)

This is not part of the Dizzy series!

N00b alert! :p :D

Anyhow, a fantastic little game, but I haven't got anywhere far either...

:( Haha, spotted, ouch it hurts... :'(

Ok so spinndizzy is some sort of MarbleMadness then...
I always like the isometric design such as this.

But it could have been done in Mode0 actually...

Also perhaps a shame there's no scrolling but diagonal scrollings are perhaps a pain in the @$$ on CPC... for such game.

Anyway a PLUS remake could really be great.

I like the fact they often change the Palette used so you minimize the limited colours effect of the Mode1 (just as in HeadOverHeels...)

Dammit, how come every time someone talks about a game, you rant about how it would be better in ModeX or on CPCPlus ?? If you had spent 10 minutes coding for each mockup you created, you'd have done a game three times bigger than Orion Prime by now. Can't you be more constructive ?
[/OT mode]

Sorry... Back to topic, I really *wanted* to like this game, but it was really too hard for the child I was. Still too hard now, actually :). Too bad, it's quite well coded and designed.

The ONLY criticism I can make about this game is the lack of music, but even then, with the amount of time spent playing this game the music would have to be very good to not get on your nerves.

And I completely disagree about Mode 0. It would not work as well as it does due to the pixel-accuracy Mode 1 provides. Also the game would not work the same with scrolling - due to the time bonuses for each new screen you discover.

Now if this game was re-made and updated for the Wii or DS on the other hand... it would be a hit.

I think this is in project somewhere...
But not sure about being a nintendo version...

Really looks like the CPC version in the colours.
Or C64 actually.

is there many differences between Spindizzy and MarbleMadness ?

Appart having a Spining Top (toupie in French) instead of a Marble ?

cpc4eva

I remember reading in a post on cpczone long time ago that someone had posted they had completed the game and had provided a snapshot file as evidence.  I think the ending was poor you complete all those levels and it just resets  dont think there was an end of game message ??

such a frustrating game and many levels extremely hard no way you could complete it with an inf time poke.

the diagonal scroll and an improved diagonal joystick movement would have been great improvements to this game.

spindizzy is a cpc classic always gets a mention by someone even after all these years.

MacDeath

Sadly an actual very few CPC games do have a proper ending... especially considering this game dates from 1986...

Some games just restarted at the begining in an endless loop.
Other games simply displayed a shamefull gameover... and so on.

even games which displayed a message of congrats were not common, and getting a real picture/outro page was mostly unconceivable ...

:'(

I had the game on the 464 as a kid, could never get into it and found it boring - I guess all the hype and rediculous high score Amstrad Action gave the game it just couldn't live up to it all.

It probably is a really great game, maybe years later... I'll return to it and give it a good play.

MacDeath

Weren't such games supposed to be played with a trackball ?

Never played the Edge, looks nice.

As for Spindizzy Dimensions, looks cool, but I doubt it'll ever be released :(

MiguelSky

It's not The Edge, it's Bobby Bearing !!

And it has been released a long time ago!

Gryzor

Yeah, I realised that when I went to download it - and yes I know it's old :p

I don't think I've played it though!

Now, imagine if the Android emulator supported the accelerometer, wouldn't it be fantastic??

Wow, Spindizzy!
I remember it's crystal clear isometric graphics, the glowing jewels, the original concept, the physical movement.
Sometimes I find some old classics again and am surprised how original and great they were for their time. You find such original ideas in retro games you can't even remember seeing anywhere today in a world filled with FPS and RTS and MMORPGS and stuff (Ok,. I am becoming a little retro-fan(atic) now so I'll stop :)

I never finished the game back then (sooo big and no save points) and I always wondered what would happen at the end. Now I know. Gotta watch some longplay.

EgoTrip

I did a video review:

I'm going to work on a longplay at some point. There is one for the C64, but the CPC needs one. Thats if I can complete it, its very difficult!

I have managed to complete 42% of the game overall without cheating. I can complete the eastern and southern sections easily, and I can tackle a large part of the northern section. There's no way I could complete it without cheating, though!

Spindizzy was/is also one of my favorite games, but I agree that it's way too difficult.

Despite being a musician, I don't think Spindizzy should have music. This kind of game is not an action game, so there definitely shouldn't be any rhythmic music playing. And I think any kind of music will quickly be annoying because it's a very time consuming game. So silence is better. Just like with the game Obsidian.
The only thing those two games perhaps could have had, would be small soundscapes every now and then, like we see in Radzone. But even without those, they're still great. The silence adds to the game in my opinion.

Spindizzy Dimensions was dropped long long time ago. I remember writing the author asking about it, and never received a reply. Shame.

oh man Spindizzy.
How I love this game so. Just such a chilled out exploration game with a nicely balanced time limit :D

I have never completed this game - I have however seen all the rooms over the course of many sessions, I think my favourite area were the HAWKWIND rooms :D

Zehphez

Well, I remember one time when I had only about 15 or 20 screens undiscovered. But the problem was: There were a loooooooooooot of jewels left  ;D ;D ;D , so the overall result was not really outstanding.

To be honest: There were some rooms where I never got some idea how to get the jewels....  >:(

Actually, Spindizzy was one of the few games I did complete. And of course without a poke. I managed to play through it with a friend I visited on holidays. Took us the whole day. Thank god it had a pause function for the lunch break.

The game is not that hard once you realize you can use the space key to stop your vehicle from moving. This come with a small time penalty, but time is plenty if you collect jewels. Of course drawing a map does help.  8)

Oh, and btw. the graphics on the CPC version is really nice.
