Title: Tau Ceti plus
Post by: ivarf on 19:59, 07 June 16
Computer & Video Games April 1986 reviewed Tau Ceti. They loved it. They also mentions the even better disc-version Tau Ceti plus. Have anyone here played Tau Ceti plus? I have included the review below.

Very aware of Tau Ceti. Have owned a copy on tape for 30 years. But Tau Ceti Plus? That one seems to have passed me by.

It's mentioned in the review, I have never heard about this extended disc version before. Does it exist?

Is it not Tau Ceti 3? Special edition or am I getting it confused ?

Seems unlikely as it seems to be released as the same time as the regular tape version of Tau Ceti. Back in the day I had the tape version too. Maybe Tau Ceti plus is just sitting there on the disc-image with the name Tau Ceti but it has extra features, ie they dropped the plus name from the disc-version.

I'm looking forward to giving this game the attention it so rightly deserves . I am hoping it grips me like a decent novel does , either this or Academy ,the idea of being able to develop your own skimmer is very appealing. I'd much prefer this over Elite (Well the Amstrad version anyhow) A close battle if we were comparing with the Beebs version

"Tau Ceti 3" seems to be a misnomer - it's not a sequel. "Tau Ceti - Special Edition" is what it's called in-game.

I think I have the original disk. I'll check tonight. I can't remember playing the game much (at all) though.

Bryce.

Yup, this is definitely expanded from the version I used to play, which explains a few things. I kept seeing references to Libraries and Timevaults when I looked it up online, but never found them in-game. They're present in this version.

Hmm, the "greatest game ever written" according to the marketing crap on the disk?

Bryce.

I strongly recommend playing both Tau Ceti and Academy. However, both games are frustrating at first and have a fairly steep difficulty curve. Jumping in with all guns/lasers blazing won't work at all; you'll be blasted to smithereens very quickly! You need to approach enemies with caution.

When I first played Tau Ceti, I was put off by the initial difficulty and didn't play it for a long time, but I eventually returned to it, and once I mastered it, it was quite engrossing - as was Academy.

It is a great game, one of many on the Amstrad. 1986 was a very good year for the CPC. It seems it continued getting releases that made an extra effort for much of that year. Then Amstrad bought the Spectrum....
