Hi, can anybody remember the name of the free art package that came with Amstrad action (UK) ?
I remember staying up late at night (still in my school uniform) doing photo real stills from terminator
(at least i thought they were)
Do you mean GPAINT?
(Attached as a .cdt because I can't be arsed .dsk-ing all the AA covertapes.)
Thanks, i cant remember the tape command in caprice any idea lol..
recently ive been doing these in the Amstrad color spec...

Ill be very happy to move all graphics dev over to gpaint if its the one
Nice... could somewhat be displayed on a CPC provided you use 1x2 pixels in Mode0 (like a magnification) in order to respect the 1:1 pixel ratio.
Are those limited to 16 colours max ?
wait what ? JPG ??? ???
Never never never never never never never never never never never ever use this shitfest of JPG format for any pixel Art... never !!!!!!!!!
Now you picture has something like 21921 colours... WTF ?
switch to PNG, BMP or even GIF...
JPG is a no no nope concerning real pixel art.
Also reconsider the picture's size when posting it here...

GPaint? Better take this...
(Start file "-ENPAINT")
Nice Colourful Graphics, they would work nicely in a sequel to "N.O.M.A.D"

Your graphics are excellent. Some of the best I've ever seen. If you would turn them 90 degrees, the MODE 0 on CPC would be the best choice.
Are you planning to do a game with them? I could imagine a great horizontal space shooter with them.
If you have any questions about GPaint or transferring gfx let me know.
Those spaceships are huge indeed...
Also they use a very lot of colours.
but yeah, nothing not fixable.
On the picture I posted I tried to fix it...
still indicates something like 20 colours.
Some gradiants would have to be "merged".
there...[attachimg=1]

Hey what's about a CPC version of the game?
those sprites are huge, CPC wise... could do great bosses though. :)
Also they really use a lot of colours IMO.
The palette is chosen like a CGA/EGA palette of sort.

Thanks im not very technical im afraid :P , just felt i needed to bow my knee before the almighty CPC palette
was there a color limitation for sprites ?
There is no color limitation, but... pixels limitations.
I don't understand how nobody saw that your gfx are not wide pixels.
You can't display that on a CPC ; It's not an Atari ST. ;)

wasn't made for an Amstrad, just the colors :|
So, what is the goal if that not look CPC ? :-\
QuoteThere is no color limitation, but... pixels limitations.I don't understand how nobody saw that your gfx are not wide pixels.
Both and none... lol...
= Colours : 16 max on the screen. stick to even 15 as a mask may use another colour.
=Pixels : yeah the pixels are suposed to be 1:2 ratio (the conversion I did accounts for it)... but square pixels in 16 colours can be achieved by doubling vertically (sort of magnifying)... it does big square pixels like 2x2 Mode1 pixels...
So your graphics can somewhat actually be displayed on a CPC.
Please TotO, be kind with newcomers... ;D
I try to see if it's possible to get a negative respect counter. :-X
Lol, just tell Gryzor his Feta is not fresh... :D
He may go full Spartan on you and give you a -1 respect counter.

I saw that of course, therefore I suggested to turn the GFX by 90 degrees. That way they would fit perfectly for MODE 0.
Turns out that Gpaint is not the same art package that came with the Amstrad action :| any lists of the cover tapes ?

Screen Designer?
Not exactly brilliant, but it did the job.

Going through all the tape issues till i find it, could be Gpaint, but i remember it starting you straight on the drawing screen ,tools down the right hand side

Still, better than this (true picture):

Back to topic....
Another great art package is the Advanced OCP art studio. See Wiki page. :)
QuoteStill, better than this (true picture):
wow, this looks gorgeous and delicious. :)
Anyway, Advanced OCP art studio is the reference actually.
Somewhat modern and powerfull, it had some patches as well.
If you have a PLUS (or with emulator) you may use GOS too...

Im fully converted to it, in fact this IS my next gen experience, using this for the next 7 years :D
To the point that i actually want to throw money at somebody for this amazing piece of kit, i remember seeing it as i kid, it was expensive back then if i remember correctly..but boy did i miss out :|
Dudes, I'm sorry but this conversation is becoming cheesy.
and out of topic.
I guess it's all my fault. But you all know how much cheese means to us French. and trolling as well.
QuoteI had some of that cheese in my fridge back when I was a student... Unfortunately it was Gouda when I put it in there
yeah, unlike USA, those Eurocheeses can actually grow a culture in less than 3 centuries.
Anyway, Grafix2 is great on modern PC.
But actually any stuff like Paint.net or Gimp ou so on can do.
There are a lot of way to convert into CPC friendly picture then.
If you don't have a proper mouse it can be paint in the ass (see what I did here ?) to work on the old CPC/PLUS.
Also it is always better to have the application on a ROM card as well as if lets you get a bit more RAM and fastness.
QuoteIm fully converted to it, in fact this IS my next gen experience, using this for the next 7 years
sorry but i fail to understand what you are talking about... dubious chesese, OCP art studio or amstrad PLUS ?
GOS seems nice as it works in overscan.
But seems to only use keyboard.
To me it would be great to have such thing enabling big sized pictures, using sprites as pointer or other features, good GUI and modern menu things...
Should be great to develop picture formats including sprite patches and rasters/multimode as well.
In case you need an English doc for gos... (just did that quick and dirty).
What *IS* GOS? Where do you get it?
Ask the CPCWiki ;)
GraphOS - CPCWiki (http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/GraphOS)
