I initially thought the same, but then if you look at the NES game, it has a good number of sprites on screen. May be because of hardware sprites? I don't know.

It's using Mode 0, so it can have enough colours for rocks, trees and water on screen, but the hardware sprites are being used for Link so that he can appear to be in Mode 1 resolution and look exactly as he does on the NES.
The problem about the Legend of Zelda (NES) is the gameplay is too old and the difficulty form an other age.
Not sure that was the best choice for a CPC/PLUS port. At less, Link Awakening DX was prefered.

it's the best choice because people love the game, the name and the brand. They are also talking about it whereas there is almost nothing more than an intention
it's a marketing rule -> do not make new things, people are afraid of novelty

What will Nintendo say? :-X

They will strike it down like they did with that fine port of Super Mario Bros on the C64 a few months ago. Nintendo don't like fan-games or remakes of their properties and are extremely strict about it. Unlike Sega who encourage it (and even hired Sonic fan-game makers to make Sonic Mania which proved to be a very positive move for them). Nintendo isn't very fan friendly.
Loving the project!! Although yes, I am afraid Nintendo has never been the most fan friendly brand, actually, quite the opposite :-X .
Yeah, Nintendo will kill this off. And they do find these projects, obscurity or retro never is enough.
Better to create a Zelda-esque Game Engine, and create a similar but non-identical game within it (i.e., new sprites, characters, plot, map).
But because it's an engine, it can be modded by a patch to have the Zelda imagery, etc.
Nintendo will strike this down and in doing so raise the profile of the CPC and encourage thousands of people to download a CPC emulator to try it out.
No bad thing...
Nintendo will do nothing as nothing is available online :P
Hi ! :D I will say one thing : no one will stop this project, people shouldn't be afraid of Nintendo ... I'm not. 8)

I must confess that I love how it looks and plays right now. I would really love to have a finished copy at home ;D

Once Pandora's box is opened and it appears in the net, even Nintendo will not be able to stop it. Recently proved with the C64-conversion of Mario. :-) And you will get publicity for free worldwide. The problem only is: you can't take the glory in the public.
You might get a massive fine or worse still, go to prison, but you'll forever be a CPC Legend if you pull this off ;)

ahaha yes sure ! but i won't get or want any "publicity" at all, first this game will never be "signed" with any of my name of nickname ... I use this game for learning code, i'm a noob and I like challenges :)

La Culotte de Zelda? ;D ;D
It looks quite awesome, to be honest. Great work!
The loading screen is just awesome ! The rest too of course.
While I would love a Zelda game on the CPC, I wonder whether another option to get around any legal issues would be to change the characters. This happened with that Dragon Ball puzzler/platform game 'Baba's Palace' that was released on CPC a year or 2 ago (though Baba herself still looks like her Dragon Ball counterpart). Toei can be as trigger happy with takedown notices as Nintendo.
yeah. looks neat but Nintendo had that C64 fan-port of Super Mario Bros taken down so just cos it's on a vintage 8 bit home computer don't mean they won't come after it.
I'm sure Nintendo coming after it would only add to the publicity and its notoriety.
I downloaded SMB for the C64 and last time I checked, Nintendo haven't managed to remove it from my Hard Drive ;D

Yep, that's the way it works. But never tell Nintendo... ;D
Nintendo have a team going around looking for these things. They will block it.
Yeah, I can see not using the trademarks but changing things slightly might help - calling it "Zoldu - The Legend" for example, and having slightly altered graphics - might get past their beady lawyers.
Better to create a 'zelda-like' engine, which they cannot argue about given the thousands of similar games, and have one of the provided engine files be the original game implemented on that engine, but let other people create their own maps/stories if they want to.

I'm surprised they didn't have youtube videos taken down which showed the game in action

May be it looks enough OK to be not detected as a homebrew? ;D

Oh yeah, Nintendo sure gonna love one of their main iconic heroes of a family friendly franchise laying dead in a pool of blood. :P

Nice colours.

Looks amazing that is for sure. And given that Xyphoe has played it on stream, is there any plan for when us mere mortals can get our hands on a copy?
I am interested also by playing it.

There is no need ot tell me twice... I'm gone!
I'm a big Zelda fan. This looks an awesome effort, really can't wait!
The thing I can't work out is how they've done that manual - it looks like the real deal :o
Is the Mario sprite topless with big red nips in that .cpr?? :-X

Strangely despite the naming of the .ZIP, this seems to be the English version.

Hi there,
I got my 6128plus today, is there a disc version of the zelda game available too?
Damn. Now I'm going to have to get a plus... :D
This one completely passed me by for some reason. It doesn't seem to get talked about much. Was it completed in the end? Is there a full list of GX homebrew on the Wiki? If I can be completely unaware of this, maybe there's something else I've missed.
The first Zelda game is beloved and still an excellent game; I don't know why Toto thinks it's bad.
