Title: The Revenge of Moriarty (text adventure)
Post by: Strident on 10:16, 19 April 19
About thirty years ago I wrote my first ever design for a text adventure... and it was rubbish! The theme was good... a Sherlock Holmes mini-adventure, set in the great detective's consulting rooms, but the design just didn't work as an adventure... it had far too many objects, for starters... over 50 for just four locations... and lots of naming clashes.

Up for a challenge, I've returned to the original designs, 30 years on, and without changing too much I've managed to get them working as an adventure... Not necessarily a good adventure, but if you want to give it a go, then it's up here: http://8bitag.com/games/moriarty.html

Available for Amstrad CPC tape & disk as well as an 80 column CP/M version.

(Also for ZX Spectrum, C64, Amiga, and Atari ST. Produced using PAWs, inPAWs, ANTUR and DAAD.)

First thing I did was sitting down at the desk. But Moriarty came up the stairs and blows my head away. I'm not very talented in text adventures. The only one I did in the past was Zork. But it was difficult for me in spite of having a detailed walkthrough. I would like to write a short review about this game on a retro-gaming website

But to finish the game would be necessary.

If you're not an adventure game player then I don't think I'd really advise reviewing a text adventure. Certainly not this one.

The chair is where you end the game, but you need to have prepared a suitable method of dealing with Moriarty (a trap/device) first.

Examining and exploring the sections of the room will reveal the items you need.

Understand. But I'm kind of involved in this topic, because I like the literature about Sherlock Holmes. My last review on this retro website was the grafic-adventure "The Testament of Sherlock Holmes" (which will be published the next week). And I thought a basic C64 text adventure would be a nice sequel and is closer to the original books. English is not my mother language and so the plain translation will take some time. This is why I asked for some help. Maybe you can just list some main steps which are necessary to finish the game instead of explaining every detail. I would certainly appreciate your efforts.
