What is a good Graphical/Text Adventure game for someone new to the genre?

I have never got into playing text adventures, but would like to give one a go , to see if I get the bug for them. I preferably would like a graphical/text type. I am using an emulator to run it because my monitor is knackered, so want one which has a good interface , so minimal need of a manual.
Is the Guild of Thieves  any good in this respect? Or any from the company that made It.Or is this a more for a seasoned Ad/Gamer?

I've recommended it before... The Fantastic four by Questprobe. Amazing little adventure game.

EgoTrip

Probably not ideal if you are new, but The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is worth checking out. If you want something easy to get into the genre, check out some of the old CwtA type-ins, they printed quite a few.

Well that triggered my interest , you're post in the other thread , although I did find it a little clunky ,but yes I am trying to get my head into how they work .

The Hitchhikers guide to the universe sounds good, although it also sounds like it could be difficult.

Gryzor

Sierra's...

(and yes, that's Roberta at the right)

Failing that, and if you're interested in text adventures in general and not the CPC scene specifically, I'd suggest bypassing it and moving on to the ST/Amiga directly. Things were much, much better by then.

The Hitchhiker's Guide is NOT for beginners. VERY frustrating...

Those babes look seriously bored, not much of an adventure to be had there.

I would agree that the ACU/CWTA text adventures are a good start to the genre as they are so dang easy (there are walkthroughs and maps online if you get stuck, though)!
-From there, you've got a few early Amsoft titles to try (Colossal Adventure, etc) and, yes, Hitchhiker's is a very popular text adventure from back in the day... but Gryzor is correct; it's a really fiddly, frustrating adventure. But, on the other hand, adventures are not MEANT to be easy. Just look at the recent influx of interactive fiction that has plagued the internet with their convoluted complexities (but they are fun, though).

My first graphic adventure was Fantasia Diamond by Hewson. It's a decent adventure, not too difficult and easy to map. The only frustration is the dang robot, but once you get him in the right place, you'll be able to continue with ease.
-From there, Level 9 or Infocom adventures... they are difficult, but if your intrigue gets this far, then you already have caught the adventuring bug and any free time you have is lost to you.

Further afield; well, LUCASARTS ADVENTURES on PC/Amiga is the best place to move onto; Maniac Mansion, Sam & Max, Monkey Island, The Dig, Grim Fandango! Followed by the aforementioned interactive fiction sites.
Finally, there's a nice company called Telltale Games (which is made up of ex-Lucasarts employees) who specialise in point'n'click (ie graphic) adventures. Someone from here even wrote a number of walkthroughs for the XBLA versions of Telltale products... what a nice chap/chapess he/she must be! ^_^

Happy adventuring.

I have found one which seems fairly easy and accessible, which uses GAC. It is Dungeons, Amythists  and alchemists . It seems ok for a starter.I  Have previously played the lucas Arts stuff Monkey Island etc.. and they're great, but I am looking more for Amstrad stuff.
