Hello guys,
Anyone here who could do a pixel art rendering of a CPC? Should be easy enough for someone with the skills - I'd really love to make a t-shirt out of it...

I've been known to dabble a little bit of computer art (this for instance), the trouble is I'm using a PC with an infinite range of colours  ???  Even some of my images are using 16 colours at low-res as attached!  :(

What I need to do is gather the CPC colours and get them into GIMP (or perhaps put them into Paint which looks easy enough and then get them into GIMP), then try some effects. Another program I like is Ultimate Paint!  ;D
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D   * with the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

For me it works ok...

Hmmm, I don't know why it won't allow you in, had no problems on my side. Perhaps you'll be able to see that art from the threads in that forum - this one & that one.

The CPC seems to have it's strength in the Blues & Greens, a pity cause I sort of fancied one of my Grey pictures only to see it had a whole grey depth thing! :(

Works for me, but there's no pixel art there :)

In any case, nobody talked about the CPC palette..?

for mode 0, I set a different x and y aspect, then use view "dot for dot".
Then you can enjoy chunkyness.

I like the minimalist approach. The single pixel, alone and unloved, desperately seeking others to be with. This pixel wishes it was brown.

What resolution ?
What mode ?
What Model ?

Have a photo as model ?

Paint.net is perfect for this.

I made my own CPC palette into it...

Gryzor

erm... any resolution, any model (though the 464 would be the best and probably easiest). Mode??????? I guess one pixel for each key would be the minimum in order to achieve the cursor keys cross.

Erm... yes, of these only the isometric animated gif is pixel art.Quite nice, actually. The rest are either not pixel art or not showing a CPC. What I had in mind was the 464 itself (no monitor) from above...

So I can nothing for you as my fetish is 6128 only... ;D

Dunno if this is what you want, but theres no keyboard lettering. The scale is not perfect.

mmmh...

perhaps this one I did today ?

It is quite a stub a ctually...

I tried something in mode0... but I haven't give some relief to the keys yet...

It may need a bigger size to get properly detailed...

I just tried to keep a quite correct proportion but I failed to give it the real form...

The real CPC464 is slightly "diagonal" shaped... sort of (don't know of to explain this in English, sorry ...)

Also As the low resolution is quite low...
Couldn't detail that much the Logos or signs...

Post Edition :

Ok here a new batch...

the resolution (screen dimensions) is a bit bastardish, yet fully displayable on a CPC in  slightly redimensionned screen...Hope you'll like it..?

The square pixels version pass well into convimgCPC.

Gryzor

Hehhhh these are all nice, especially yours, EgoTrip! Dunno if it's usable for a t-shirt (I'll try), but can I use it for my sig? :)

MacDeath, the Mode1 ones are really nice. Mode2 doesn't really help I think...

MacDeath

#17
Thx, but the mode1 version have the exact same pixel surfaces...

In what the Mode0 doesn't helps ?

Oh yeah, T-shirts are more expensive depending  onthe number of colours you want ?

There the last version, in 384x272 full screen resolution...
Good to go into convimgCPC...

This one features a bit more highlights, hence it uses the full 16 colours.

Also the mode0 pixels are exactly what is needed for a proper isometric.
But of course this is not as precise as a true 3D rendering, it is stylised a bit...

No, it's just me taking over this thread - why waste starting up another thread when this one exists?

Anyway I made these in Black and white which I should be able to make some CPC variation for.

Sure, feel free to use it unedited for anything you want. I do think MacDeath's are better though especially the second one.

This looks good but would need more proper/regular/cleaner ditherings...

QuoteWha??
What is commonly called pixel Art is art... where you actually see the pixels...
Lowres-like...(be it false...)

Of course many "pixel art" we see (isometric, often) actually use shittons of colours and so on... and couldn't actually run on the machines it mimics.
Also most of those found on the internet are in fucking JPG... so there is no more art in the pixel...

If pixels are properly set, dithered and regular, you may get an awesome feeling with only 16 colours...
Today's High resolution is even better to see the true potential of such a well pixelised picture... but this implies a lot of work...  ::)

Mode2 or 1 ?

If mode1 you could use the Grey to smoother this.

Thx... which second one ?

the 4 colours version was roughly ported and need actually a better colour choice IMO... perhaps the use a some rasters too so the text would be in Yellow and the CPC in... not yellow.

Here, my shot on the wormhole... :-[

I used Graphixwizard old version (it givesthe best monocolour mode1 ditherings IMO) to get a 3 colours version...
Then I used Paint.net to recolour according to the zones/circles.

I hope you don't mind me doing this...

let's compare :

Heres my one again, I had to fix a couple of minor details. There is also one with keyboard lettering. Anyone is free to use them provided they use as-is, if you want anything changing let me know.

MacDeath: the last one you posted

Gryzor

Heheh the lettering is over the top :D Fantastic job!

Only two notices - it could probably do with some shading (even though it would mean more colours), and the counter should read "464" :)

Thanks again!

Btw, I prefer this one for no reason other than that I didn't have iso in mind...

PS It's 464px wide...

EgoTrip

How/where do you want the shading?

I have changed the counter to 464...

I've got ConvImgCPC and just played around with it one of those images, unfortunately I because it's using a based on a range of images I made previously it's done in that size! So if I reduce it, I lose detail and if I play around converting the original image so it becomes a CPC image it becomes Blocky!  ???

QuoteWhat is commonly called pixel Art is art... where you actually see the pixels...
Lowres-like...(be it false...)

I've done Low-res stuff with the aim of scale the image up and still retain the same quality of it (only larger), which I've attached.

Though I'm unsure what Gryzor was referring to, I interpreted it as "I can see the thread, but see no imagery", though it could mean "I see no pixelated art", to which I thought some of it was, perhaps not all cause some of it are photos transformed into Digital Drawings in an effect to make it look hand drawn.

Beware the Converter which converts whatever your image is in into JPG too!  :(

Mode2 or 1 ?

This is where I'm unsure if something like ConvImgCPC can simply be used as a tool to generate the right feeling, obviously something which offers a vast amount of options or personal selections, I just thought it would be good to try some experimentation with Paint and GIMP with CPC colouring and resolution to generate some effects which would work on an Amstrad!  ;D

Yeah I know it's a silly name for that image (wormhole - blame the Jon Pertwee era of Dr Who for that  :-[ ), I won't mind having a look at that Graphixwizard cause that do over you've done looks good.  ;D
