Hi All. Hope i have posted in the right section.

So i want to buy a 6128. Problem is they are VERY hard to come buy here in australia, and any of the auctions i have come accross on ebay in the UK, The seller is not prepared to post to Australia. Is there anyone on this forum who has a 6128 they would like to sell (console only). I am prepared to pay a good price for one.

cheers
Mike

Sadly no, I read about some guy who I think lived in Australia who was collecting Amstrad's, though this was on the CPCZone Forum (which has since been put on Ice) and I haven't heard from them in ages. May want to try out the Vintage Computer Forum which have built a bit of a reputation with Collectors and buyers.

Hello Mikey,

It would seem weird that noone would ship to Australia... you could offer paying for registered/insured postage, wouldn't that help?

Unfortunately I've shrunk my collection down and I can't 'afford' to send one over :(

mikeych

yeah i thinks its weird that none of the sellers  i have contacted are prepared to post to OZ. Most wouldnt reply to my request those that did have apologised but said they have been "burnt" in the past when sending overseas. I guess its thier perogative. I'm hopefull though that it will be just a matter of time before something crops up. Thanks for the heads up on te other forum, i'll have a look there too.

Hi and welcome to the forum, I can't offer you a 6128 either, but you could try E-Bay Germany for a Schneider CPC6128 ? The keyboard differences are minimal and maybe someone there would be willing to send it to Australia?

Bryce.

Hi Mikey,

I was lucky enough to win a 6128 from the UK on eBay earlier this year. It was the computer only, not the monitor. They posted it to Australia and postage was £38.

The seller was very helpful and this is the info they gave me which might be useful for you "Even with this bare minimum it still weighs 2.5kg and measures 54cmx10.5cmx24cm which is a 'volumetric' weight of over 3kg".

Cheers,
Steve

Mikey, you could also try assuming all the risk of the transaction in order to persuade the seller. I've done it myself in the past when a seller wouldn't oblige...

What this means is that you could offer leaving positive feedback right after the auction and before he even sends the goods. Of course this means you're left with no recourse, should something go awry, but it should ease the seller's mind a bit...

I'm sure 6128s come up on ebay au occasionally although at not very good prices like right now the buy it now price is 499 + 90 shipping,

but I'm sure they must come up at reasonable prices as I know someone who has several 6128s.

Guess it pretty much is wait a while until something comes up, just like I have to wait for ever if I want a DDI-1

Thanks for all the advice. Really appreciate it. Ive got my eye one german listing, so i contacted the seller and they are happy to post if i win. Fantastic. Postage will cost me about 80 euros but it is still better value than the australian listing. I had a look at ebay france too, quite a bit of stuff there, but i dont think i could get my head around the AZERTY keyboard. All I can say is, Thank God For Babelfish!

Good for you man... do let us know when it arrives - sending a photo would be a plus! CPC porn never gets old ;)

Man. What is wrong with people in England. I was the succesfull on a job lot of Cpc games in the UK.  The seller sent me a rather admonishing email sugesting it was rude of me to bid without asking first. ( if they felt that bad about it they could block international bidders) , and that they were not prepared to post as it would cost too much( funny i thought that only concerned buyers not sellers).

Rather stunned i replied with an apology and saying i am preparef to cancel the sale if it made them feel beter, but that i was more than happy to cover the cost of postage, and to have a merry christmas.

PRobably shoulda just said "go boil ya head". LOL

That makes me go compeltely mad... I mean, I don't care if I have to pay a bazillion pound just to send a CPC to the other side of the galaxy, it's me who's assuming the risk, not them.

Anyway, I've met many english sellers that were absolute gentlemen and some others that get you into trouble and don't care to tell you're an idiot...

That's life  :D

I think some of the time it's because UK sellers think they can't track international postage, so the buyer just says "I didn't get it" and there's nothing they can do.

But UK sellers could easily offer UPS, FedEx etc and they are all trackable, it's just that some of them don't want the bother - they just want to use Royal Mail so they can  trundle down to the Post Office and p*ss everyone else in there off with their 200 parcels to send.[nb]Can you tell that this happened to me the other day...?! I was only posting one parcel, so I'm allowed to use Royal Mail, hahaha...[/nb]

I'm not suggesting it's the case here, but sometimes it maybe the country your living in which is causing the problem, I mean sure we're only dealing with a harmless computer and in all fairness it's not a weapon of mass distruction - unless it's carrying some mutant form of Swine Flu, but that's stupid cause your more likely to win the Lottery!! But Australia is a funny place, sure we don't have terrorist (or at least we think we don't and we've caught a few which have got through the cracks), but to get through an Airport here now it's almost as if you have to go through the process of procedures to ensure you ain't dodgy. So one could wonder if this is the price one has to pay to have a safe country. I mean their's Customs, Death Ray machines, Scanners, and more Death Ray Machines just to analyse you just in case you have a Knife!!

Overall I'm frustrated that I cannot order a book I wouldn't mind having, though the cover of it is on CPCWiki, so maybe one day it'll be on the Wiki for me to enjoy!  ;D
