Title: CPC 664 IC’s
Post by: Spbmlb10 on 11:02, 04 July 19
Hi I'm after a couple of chips for a 664 to get it operational. Does anyone have a spare ROM 40022 and the 40010?? I'm finding them impossible to locate. Thank you

Hi,
what exactly happened to the 664 that these chips have failed. They are both chips that rarely fail except for in extreme situations.

Bryce.

Hi Bryce, 12v Power Supply instead of 5v. It wasn't me, I acquired he machine like this being told the power light, lights up and that's it. After looking at the supply he was using I realised it was 12v not 5. So that's my guess. The 40022 is running really hot and voltage is not correct so it's my first guess. 40010 i want to source a replacement just in case. I really want to restore this to its former glory and keep it for my collection.  Cheers

Ok. The ROM which definitely needs to be changed can be replaced with a 27C256 (32K EPROM). The images to burn to it can be found on the Wiki. You'll most likely have to replace some of the RAM too, but after that, many of the chips may have survived, so I wouldn't go looking for anything further until they have been replaced.

Thanks Bryce I'll get what's required and keep you posted. I have ordered some replacement ram a week ago anyway suspecting there could be some damage just had not got around to doing much else as life has a way of sucking up all available time to tinker with these classics. Thanks Steve

Those chinese companies are very rarely honest about their stocks.
