Title: CPC in the USA
Post by: Nadori on 13:21, 11 March 24
Hello this is my first post.

Anyone knows if and how the CPC (both the 464 and the 6218) impacted in the USA and in Australia back in the days? There were official dealers/distributors (like Time for Zx)? Were those Amstrad machines ever been sold in those territories (and so the games)? Thanks!!! :)

Welcome @Nadori.

I'm an Australian CPC enthusiast, and in fact started with the CPC464 in 1985 (I was 12 at the time).
I believe they were distributed by a company called AWA back then.

A few years later, the high school I went to opened a computer lab.
It was filled with CPC6128's, and I was the only one in the class who knew how to use them.
:)

Over time, several friends also obtained CPC's.
Lots of trading happened!  ;D

Thanks a lot!
So it seems to me the 464 was not officially released in the US, right?

Yes: " Aside from various hardware and firmware improvements, the CPC 6128 was also compatible with the CP/M+ operating system, making it attractive for business uses. It was the first Amstrad product to be sold in the USA, a market that was traditionally hostile towards European manufacturers. "
