Title: Greetings!
Post by: Senex on 17:46, 21 January 25
Hi everyone,

First of all, thank you for letting me join your community!

I'm a retrocomputing enthusiast and - sadly - I've spent all of my life without progressing further than the level of an amateur, beginner-level coder, having dabbled in GW-BASIC, Visual Basic 3.0, Fortran 77, LSL, and a bit of Locomotive BASIC. Given I was a PC owner from the beginning, my CPC experience has been semi-vicarious: through emulators and through friends and relatives who owned CPCs - all of them were 6128s: one had the green monitor, two others had the color one. Whatever the flavor, color or green, there's always been something endearing about the CPC. Despite the fact that many game developers at the time didn't take full advantage of the machine.

Now, as far as gaming is concerned, I tend to prefer platformers. Games like Goody, Livingstone Supongo, the Dizzy franchise, etc. There are also various shmups and arcade games I like, but for some reason I tend to always get back to platformers of the style I mentioned.

Welcome! There's plenty of stuff to learn starting from here, so you might be able to reach the next level(s) in the coming years.

Welcome. You're in luck because there have been a lot of homebrew platformers released lately!

Hello from Spain to Belgium! Interesting that you mention 2 Spanish games among the 3 platformers you love. I personally don't like them very much due to the extreme difficulty!

You probably already know them, but I recommend you try (and finish) Bruce Lee, Saboteur and Saboteur 2.

Also, from a platformer fan to a platformer fan... Well, I love Prince of Persia and the game is available for the CPC. But I guess you already played the super cute MS-DOS version. FUN FACT: These are the only 2 versions with a blonde prince, it was supposed to be a turban! The CPC version saw the clear brown-haired one from the PC and said: "Hold my beer". And the prince hair is yellow in our machine! ; ) But most importantly, it appears to be an excellent port.

Finally, you can try Roland in Space, an interesting exclusive game for the CPC. It's like Manic Miner, but with bigger stages and multiple planets to visit.

PS: Not a platformer, but Matchday 2 didn't come out for the PC, try that one if you have a slight interest in "soccer" football games. I like to describe that one as a mixture of football... and PLATFORMER. You'll see what I mean.
