I hope I did not do something stupid...

So, the summary is that I bought a 464 Plus that comes with color monitor and a few games, everything in good condition, and I payed 95 pounds  :picard: . Re-thinking about it, it seems like quite a lot of money, but I was really looking forward to have the screen and, since everything came in the same lot, I could not resist it and I bought the complete set. Initially the idea was not so crazy, because my thinking was to sell the Plus on e-bay, recover money and keep the screen but, to be honest, I think that I will keep everything at the end. Oh well...

Where's the stupid bit? That's sounds like a relatively good deal, whether you keep the plus or not.

Well, the stupid bit is that I bought it impulsively, just because I saw that there was the nice monitor in the set. Then, I thought that maybe it was not a great idea after all and I started thinking about it and not rushing things  :-X but, to be honest, if you think that the price is fair I feel much better  :)

SRS

Envious I am :)

And all that nice toy for just 42,5 kg ...

I gave in to a similar impulse a year or so ago and got a 6128 plus

Considering the actual prices is not that bad.

Plus, it's an enjoyable machine and you can always make a plus version of your game with extended palette  ;D

KaosOverride

And what's the problem? You already have a 464 plus? You have yet a 6128 plus? Just wanted the monitor for a GX4000 and is your only plus machine?

If you only have a GX4000 with C4CPC at a TV and wanted a monitor for it, now you have a keyboard for the C4CPC games which don' support well the "only joystick input" :) no problem!!

Upgrade it to 128K and install the FDC for external A: at the port. :)

Great!!!
But if you ever regret it, I'll buy it  ;D
Never had a plus machine.

It seems that it was not a super crazy idea, then  :) I actually have a 6128 Plus in UK and an army of them in Spain, including monitors. Problem is that I do not feel strong about moving any of these things to UK, so I decided to buy another monitor here. Then, I saw the Plus and I bought the whole lot! After this, I thought, heck, maybe this was already a bit too much  :picard:

Bryce

Na, even if you decided to move back to Spain tomorrow, you could sell it individually for more than you spent.

Thank you for your opinions guys!

I was asking for a guide to upgrade it to a 6128+, but I already found it:

464Plus Conversion - CPCWiki

:D

However, I am thinking that since I already have X-MEM and the HxC, it would be much easier to connect these to upgrade the machine. Actually, thinking about it, it is an interesting choice, since my 6128+ does not have tape port and with this guy I could even load original tape games  :)

Yup, that article is from me. If you have any questions about it just send me a PM. Feedback of how good the guide is would also be welcome.

The guide is very good and clear, Bryce  :) . I do not know if I will go through the process of internally upgrading it but that would not be because the article does not tell you how to do it!  :D

Gryzor

Adding another CPC to your collection, stupid? Tsk :D

The biggest advantage to an internal upgrade is that no currently available external RAM expansion is entirely compatible with the Plus ASIC and may suffer from weird behaviour due to memory corruption if you run any 128K Plus software. An internal expansion doesn't suffer this, since the ASIC knows not to write to the expansion RAM when its registers are paged in.

I received the computer today, it was inside a huge cardboard box, wrapped in a suspiciously brownish duvet  :-X The CPC itself is in bubble wrap, thanks to God, but the screen was just in the middle of the brownish thing. I still did not take it home or inspected it, but I think that somebody will have to clean the stuff very very carefully...  :picard2:

That's a pretty good deal. Most of the pluses, even 464 are sold over 150-200 pounds nowadays. You don't wanna know how much I paid for a 6128+ because I thought I wouldn't have another chance at the time and impulse buying.

p.s. I have wasted 300 or 400 euros/pounds in two cases in my life in so stupid ways that I feel like an idiot when thinking about them. But I wouldn't care more today..

||C|-|E||

He, I think that many of us are in the same boat. I still regret buying some things that originally seemed a good deal  :picard: In particular, the one that still hurts is an old IBM server that I restored spending like 300 euros and then got never used. Oh well...

About this particular 464 Plus I bought, I was cleaning the whole lot, that was seriously dirty, and I found that everything is basically new. This lady bought it, or got it as a present, and she barely used the machine. The computer was probably sitting somewhere collecting dust all this time. She never took the system cartridge out and I guess that she only played with Burning Rubber from time to time. The pad even has the original protective plastic and the tape deck seems completely unused. The screen also behaves like a completely new unit, with vibrant colors and the classical painful brightness you could expect from it.

Now, the bad news: a complete set of keys, all in the same region, does not work (9,i,k,l,0...). This was somehow almost expected and, since the machine needs a good cleaning and proper maintenance I will have a look at it. In the best case, I will just need to unplug the membrane and clean the contacts. If this does not work I will add new silver, as I did with the 6128 Plus. I have a couple of new membranes here but if possible I want to use the old ones as long as possible  :)

If you want the parts to add a tape port to the 6128plus I think i still have enough left to put one together for you. Pm me if you are interested. Hell if I can do it, anyone can.

The keyboard connector is pushed with adhesive paper beside it... just have to put another on it...
