There are a few games on XBLIG that are suspiciously similar to olde Amstrad games... to the extent that they use the same god-awful palette!
One of these is called THE BLAGGERS by a small company called 3T Games.
Let's Play "The Blaggers" (XBLIG) Part 5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2grVTFei2Tk#ws)
Plagiarism or nostalgia? They do still keep the blatant "Alligata" level (called THE BEST SOFTWARE HOUSE).
(The blokey playing is so badly clueless that it's a little uncomfortable to listen to him at times)
The other game on the 3T Games list is called Punchys... and no prizes for guess what that CPC title that rips from lovingly recreates!
I would like to call it Jet Set Willy 1/2 :P
Wow, they didn't even change the SAFE graphic!
Unbelievable.
Having said that, if it is an official update, then there is no problem.
But then again, I can't find any information to indicate that it is official.
Not cool.
Given that Blagger was a shameless Manic Miner knock-off in the first place, it'd be a bit cheeky to complain. But, on the whole, I don't really have a problem with remakes of games like this - it's not like anyone's going to make any real money off them and trying to recreate even a reasonably simple old game is a good way of learning to code.
That is one of the most amazing, most accurate remakes I've ever seen ::)
Seriously though, it looks fucking awful even if it is a dramatic improvement on the original, which I never liked. Manic Miner was the daddy of that style of single screen platformers, and most other attempts to copy it were lacking.
Saying that, Contraption was pretty decent even if it only had about 4 levels.

Very true. Even some "bugs" are still in there.
This looks like Blagger meets Technician Ted.
Personally I like Blagger for it's use of Colour and Palette Switching, it's funny your character has a little Pink Face though. :)
I do not see anything wrong with trying to do something better than what has gone before, throughout history, everything has been a small or not so small improvement on an existing thing, it is called Progress.
I have heard it said that there are only 7 stories to be told, imagine if there were only 7 books of fiction in our libraries.
Copyright may even hold back scientific progress if no-one is allowed to improve ideas presented in earlier books.
I don't see anything wrong either; sure, they could state it's a clone or something, but...
