Hi all,

Christmas has always been strongly associated with the CPC for me. Holidays in general used to be reserved for CPC stuff (of course), but the Christmas holidays has always been the one associated with the CPC the most, for some reason. Probably partly because Christmas is a traditional thing that lets us remember old days. The CPC and Christmas belongs together. For me at least.

A lot of it is pure nostalgia. Meaning, looking back remembering a golden age that is now far away, and alive only in our memories. Even if we're still in contact with the people from that time, they'll have changed a lot. We will never ever get that time back. We will never ever be able to talk with the people from back then again, because they exist no more. They all either went away, or changed personality. And for some reason, we stayed. Or came back. We're all that's left of the CPC people.

We now assemble here at the CPCwiki. And as long as the CPC community is alive, new CPC productions will keep emerging, allowing us to also look back and appreciate new CPC stuff every Christmas. Experiencing the nostalgic CPC retroness in new ways with new games, new demoes, new hardwares. And that's actually the best Christmas present we can get nowadays, isn't it?

I thought this would be a good time to give some thanks to everyone for contributing to the community. Everyone posting on the CPCwiki forum, contributing to wiki content, writing games and demoes, developing and fixing hardware, making longplay videoes and everything else CPC related. THANK YOU!

And special thanks to

  • Gryzor for running the CPCwiki and forum. We definitely found the right guy for the job. :-)
  • Bryce for all the help he gives to everyone with electronics. We're extremely lucky to have you with us.
  • Axelino, Xyphoe and Cholo for all the CPC videos. My girlfriend and me enjoy those a lot. Great for a relaxing evening.
  • Axelay for "Dead on Time", definitely one of the best CPC games in newer time for me.
  • Retroworks for "Teodoro no sabe volar", exactly the kind of new game I'd been waiting for.
  • CNG Soft for "Bubble Bobble (BB4CPC)". This game just fills a great void the CPC has had for way too long.
  • Easter Egg for "R-Type". It's so awesome to see games on the CPC the way they should have been from the start.
  • Arnoldemu + BlueAngel + tastefulmrship for making "Nightshift" for me. :-)
  • F-key + Ced for making "Tracks from the early 90'ies" for me. :-)
  • Demoniak for coding help
  • Targhan for Orion Prime. Although not my favourite genre, a masterpiece always deserves recognition.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

See you in 2014 for another great CPC year!

P.S.: Sorry to anyone feeling left out. There are a few new productions I haven't even had the time to look at yet.
Do you need music for your Amstrad CPC game project?
Take a look at IndieGameMusic.com - that's where I put my tracks.

Thanks for a lovely post, Mr Lou.

Indeed after a point Christmas meant mostly one thing for me: how many, and what titles, of CPC games I would be getting. Unfortunately (?) I didn't get my 464 on Christmas so as to have it as a "bestest Xmas day EVAH!", but it did give me plenty of joy.

Thanks to everyone for keeping these memories more than alive!

Bryce

Merry Christmas MrLou. I hope were are all still here next year to ejoy new CPC hardware and software all over again :)

I think 20136 wasn't a bad year... quite a lot of productions actually.

When I look at CPCpower, i can see a huge gap from 1994 to 2000... not a lot of big games, really...

But now the scene seems to produce more games than demos, which is a good thing to keep the machine alive and well (sort of...).

Sadly this 2013 year ended quite badly for me...
(graphic horrible visual attrocities content, Warning !)
Spoiler: ShowHide

And quite well on the other end/hand :

2013 is Dead soon... long live 1914 !!! oops...

Hey, a game on the WW1 ? this could be great for a dual anniversary... CPC : 30years, WW1 : 100years...
So few wargames/simulators these days on CPC...

Anyway yep, Xmas during those CPC years was also synonymous with new purchased games and compilations or even new hardware and it was sweet and awesome. Hope it won't change for the next 30years !!!

Joyeux Noël, monsieur LOU.

robcfg

What did happen to you?  :o

I guess you are better now as you're posting again...

Take good care of you, mate!

MaV

Merry Christmas!

Woa! That looks gross! I hope you'll get better soon, MacDeath!

Did you ever really regret hitting that "Show" button? I do right now. You know you don't want to see what's there, but you go and hit it anyway, don't you? MacDeaths shaved belly isn't really what you want to see even if it hadn't been operated on :D

Hope you get well soon though MacDeath.

Bryce.

Gryzor

Whoa man, did someone come at you with a knife?

Not very gross though, I want my money back; ever since I watched that video tape of the operation they did on my knee, this wouldn't even stop me from eating my steak :D

I had a gallbladder (sounds like a videogame, lol) infection cumulated with gallbladder stone.

They had to remove it. :-X :'( :(

Wow, can't wait for Gall Bladder 2.0. Should be really good, hopefully with hardware sprites and making use of the pluses DMA.... blah blah...

I thoguh Gall stones were blasted with LASERs these days, I didn't think they still needed to make big holes in you any more.

when the operation is planified in advance, they do that...

when you are in urgency with heavy pain because you get both a big gallstone and infection it can be done the old way.

at first they tried to "softer way and found out the biological tissues from the organ were closer to a jelly than proper cell tissues.
They had to open bigger in order to clean the mess and be sure nothing infected would remains.

I could have died in horrible atrocious pain indeed.

but i guess i'm again out of topic... :D

TFM

Man, I'm really sad to hear. This pain can't be described to s/o who never felt it.

Truly the idea behind a great game in the making...."Gall stones blasted with LASERs", so vertical or horizontal shooter ?  :D

Man, this must have been some pain... my dad went through it, it looked like he was dying, really. Argh. Still, since it gives rise to inspiration for new games it's worth it ;)
