Title: Musical feelings
Post by: Gryzor on 08:06, 17 June 10
Hello guys!

I just wanted to share: I listen to chiptunes and remixes very often in my car - almost every day when I get back from work. Got a rather big collection of CDs filled with mp3s...  Anyone else does that? Or am I in the minority here?

Anyhow, two of my favorite tunes are the Commando tunes. But each time I listen to the High Score one it kind of makes me sad, exactly like when I was playing the game back in the day, and after hours of frenetic shooting I should console myself with shooting my initials into the high score table... What a difference some music can make!

Commando was one of my favourites too. Agent X II was also high on the list, but I've never gone so far as to listen to them in the car. I do however leave real games running on my 6128 as background music on occassions, while I solder boards or do other electronic stuff.

Bryce.

Gryzor... I listen to chiptune music on my HTC. That Commando music is good, but a bit too pitchy for my poor old ears. I love listening to IK+ and Agent X II, and Netherworld is good. The Amstrad got some great music for Wec-le mans and many more. One of my favourite 8-bit tunes has to be the Turbo Outrun intro for the C64 "hit, hit, hit, hit, hit the gas". The game was average mind.

It's quite seldom that I listen to the originals (though I *do* have some on my CDs: the Barbarian tune's bass sounds great with my new car speakers for instance :D ), it's mostly remixes (either with real instruments or in chiptune style).

@Bryce: great idea, leaving it in the background. I used to do that when I was in the UK (the only instance when I had a full setup all the time in the room), I would load music disks and study... :)

@UKmarkh: your HTC what? I have a Diamond 2 myself. Maybe we could exchange playlists :D

I usually listen to a lot of remixes and lately I'm quite addicted to these (http://www.soundofhazel.com/news.php).

Check the Nemesis the Warlock remix and the free album "I wish I had skillz". It's fantastic!

Shame on you!
I prefer the originals! I don´t like remixes.
Each chiptune is an classic art like "Eifelturm", "Mona Lisa" or "Kleine Nachtmusik".
You may not touch those classics!
The gods don´t like such experiments. We are humans, we may not remix!

I have got 6 CDs filled with the best material selected & recorded by myself from the games as 16-Bit-WAV-Files (no awful MP3).

3 CDs filled with AY/YM
2 CDs filled with SID (sad but true...)
2 CDs filled with PAULA

This is my personal treasure!
I spent a lot of time to master it! (cut to single edit, loudness maximizing, fade in/out...)
I listen to it almost every day via AKG Headphones, Hifi-system, ghettoblaser or in the car.

Does somebody know Beethovens "Moonlight Serenade" from "Jet Set Willy/Titelscreen"?
The Amstrad-Version sounds so nice! I love it.
A hugh smash hit (for example) offers "Burning Rubber": Dunn & Cannon are great composers, like Lennon & McCartney.
Tim Follin is a genius too!
And of course Daglish, Whittaker, Leitch, Gonzales, Ulrich (eden blues), and so forth...

16-Bit wav!!! Shame on you Leonie for daring to wander beyond the sacred 8-bit limit!

Niceeeee

@Robcfg: I took I look at soundofhaze, listened to a couple of tracks, nice ones, but it's rather chaotic - what's where? What are they doing? Are there full albums? Playlists? Something? A video I saw was really great, but where's the mp3? Darn...
