Hi there, I guess this is the place to say hello, so a short introduction;

I have just registered on this forum though I have bookmarked the CPCwiki for a little over a year now. Back in the late '80s my grandad gave my dad an Amstrad CPC6128 w/green screen as a replacement for an old Commodore 64 (that he had given us a few years earlier) which itself was a replacement for an older Camputers Lynx 48K - My first ever computer. An interesting machine with some nice features, but well obsolete and unsupported by that time. The CPC seemed like a huge step up, even from the C64.

Anyway, in these modern times of the intraweb, I was overjoyed to find these 'emulator' softwares. My laptop is now capable of transforming itself into every computer I ever owned, several Amigas, Spectrums, the CPC obviously and even the almost forgotten Lynx. A real universal Turing machine. For some reason I never bothered with the C64, but I kept programming in basic on the CPC and using AMOS on the Amiga. As a hobbyist I never got into anything lower level, and I can't cope with the plethora of knowledge and development software needed to learn C or other modern object oriented languages

Just Lately I have started to learn the Z80 assembly using Winape and its built in assembler, mainly for my own intellectual entertainment and partly to fulfill some childish dreams that are nearly as old as me.  Anyway, without this wiki and its links to all the documentation re. the Z80 and the CPC firmware, this would not have been possible. I now have a real challenge to start coding a subroutine library and learn about interfacing with the CPC hardware. The code examples given in the programming section have really jump started my progress,  I am enjoying myself incredibly and learning daily. Really love the simplicity of the Z80.

So thanks very much to all involved.

I was going to post some questions here but I think I will post in the appropriate sections later.

Greetings from mid-Wales.
Best regards,
Sam.

You're only a youngster then. I had finished University and was living in Barry (near Cardiff) in 1993.

Good thing your age doesn't show under the avatar :D

Btw, it was while in Cardiff that I got my first modern-era CPC... Call me a nerd, but it was definitely one of the best moments up there.

Quotemodern-era CPC
I fail to understand.

is this :
=a 6128 with colour monitor ?
=A PLUS ?
=An emulator ?
=An Amstrad with ROMbox+512K+3"1/2diskdrive+colours on monitor ?
=A "modern PC ?
=a subtle way to tell you lost your virginity there ?*

*you know, those girls we spend more time playing with than our computers now...**

**anyway, to be the man who manage the CPCwiki you truely deserve the noble titles of Counter Gryzors High Nerd of the Amstradom, Duc de Crocodile, Coder of Cardiff, High Greek Geek of the Order of the Wiki, Page of Sir Sugar***.

***"Honnis soit qui mal y code".

Oh wow, I dig that, I may print it on my calling card. Thanks, you low-life troubadour.

And what I meant was, that was the first CPC I got after I sold my 6128 back in '90. But I like your interpretations.  Girls seemed to have a passing interest in it. What does help more with girls though, you know, is the photo of *another* girl in the room. Go figure.

Anyway, when I got back to Athens almost all my stuff was retro-related... heheheh.

PS Especially the "Honnis..." part, it could be part of the wiki logo :D
