Hi all,
am new to this site, my boss had an amstrad bought for business use in 1986, i assume it was cpc6128 or simliar which used cf/2 discs maybe pcw8256
but anyway he used a program like a spreadsheet on it to keep record of business
now, he has asked me if i can read it!
i managed to get a company to transfer it to cd, i was thinking maybe i could install an amstrad emulator and download the program needed to read the files.
firstly i need to know if this could work, and secondly what program it was , so i can download it, all i know is that it was 1986
the cf2 disc had two folders side1 and side2
inside side1 are 3 msdos applications called accounts, pip and submit. there are also .OVL files and .DAT files
side 2 contains numerous .DAT files
does anyone have an idea as to what program i am looking for or what program might be able to read these files?

Sounds more like a CP/M based disk rather than MSDOS, PIP.COM is used for copying files from one place to another in CP/M. SUBMIT.COM allows execute a series of commands from within a file (usually that file has the extension .SUB), pretty much like how DOS would execute a BATch file. If a SUBmit file is there it may show what programs are executed if presumibly it was all on that disc, or in your case the submit file maybe one of the DAT files, CP/M may allow a SUBmit file to be a DAT file, viewing it within a text editor certain won't harm it unless it's rewritten. OVL files could be Overlay files, which usually means a program of considerable size uses those files as it needs them.
Unfortunately that's about as much help I can give. ???
Anyone with a 3" drive on a PC could make an image of the disks so you can work later on an emulator with them.
I can do this for you but you'd have to send the disks to Spain.

i tried opening with excel and text document in windows but it is mostly unreadable :(
