Title: Programmer of yonder days
Post by: MaV on 00:24, 10 April 11
Hi guys!

Well, what do you know. I was at O'Reilly's book site looking for forthcoming books, when I startled and rubbed my sleepy eyes. I read a name I instantly recognized from the olden days. Raffaele Cecco is writing a book: "Supercharged JavaScript Graphics" (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781449393632/ (http://oreilly.com/catalog/9781449393632/)). For those who don't recognize his name, he wrote games such as Cybernoid and Exolon, and ported Solomon's Key from the arcade to the CPC.

It's nice to be able to trace the lifes of some people after 20 or more years.

Yeah Raffael Cecco was an 8bit star...

He had many interviews in French magazines...
And his Amstrad Games were all goods...

Note : He used an Atari ST to crossdev the CPC games... not a speccy !

To be fair quite a lot of the coders from the heydays are still active in Computer industry...

For exemple many old 8/16bit game-makers recycled into the Mobile phones games...

Yesterday I found an interview with him on a speccy website. Might not have been such a surprise, if I had read it before looking at O'Reilly, because in it he mentioned working on a book. I can't speak Spanish ... but it's not very difficult to get the gist of it.

Did anyone mention that? ;) I remember reading that a lot of programmers used more advanced machines to develop their 8-bit games on.

If you know of anyone in particular, please share!

I'm still trying to figure out what happend to the members of Realtime games - Andrew Onions, Ian Oliver, Graeme Baird. They did Starglider, Carrier Command, Star Strike I + II. These were my idols in the late 80s.

Sorry no, Chris Wood did this.

But it's good to see an old name like Raffael Cecco around.
